Recalling the time, Nana shared on The Lallantop that Neelkanthi also had a day job at a bank as an officer, and made much more money than he did. Nana admitted that it was his wife’s support, financial and moral, that encouraged him to pursue a career as an actor. He said:

"She was working as an officer in a bank. I would get paid Rs 50 per show, and she had a salary of Rs 2500. I could only make Rs 750 after doing 15-20 shows. She told me that if you want to pursue this as a career… I am already making money, so we have money coming in for the family. I am very grateful to her. I could pursue this profession only because of her."

Nana’s death at 75 was both shocking and heartbreaking. As per reports, the legendary actor was feeling unwell and had pain on the left side of his chest at around 2:30 a.m. At the time, Nana texted his friend to inform him that he was feeling unwell.
