Namita Thapar became a popular household name after her stint in the reality show, Shark Tank India. The talented entrepreneur and Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals has not only rocked the business world with high strides and performances, but has also inspired millions of others with her relentless progress to reach the top of the ladder. Talking about her stint in the reality show, while the boss lady has surely locked many incredible deals with budding companies, she recently revealed the reality of these deals which she has cracked.

Namita Thapar reveals getting ghosted by founders despite cracking a deal

In an interaction on the YouTube channel, Finance With Sharan, Namita Thapar divulged the harsh realities the ‘sharks’ often face after striking a deal with budding startups and companies on the popular reality show, Shark Tank India. The businesswoman revealed facing many instances where the founders show a lack of integrity and ghost her, right after the episode of their deal gets aired on national television. Adding how most companies and their founders never really understand the value of cracking such a deal, Namita explained:

“A lot of people are very clueless when it comes to the count of investments because what they don’t realise is when we start doing our due diligence, there are multiple things that… there’s literally a lack of integrity on the part of founders. There are many founders who have ghosted me. There are many founders who, when we do the due diligence, the numbers they quoted at the tank, they are completely off, not just marginally but substantially off.”

Namita shares how multiple companies move out and look for better deals once the episode is telecasted

Elaborating more about the complex circumstance, Namita Thapar then stated how many companies withdraw from the pitched deal with the ‘sharks’, once their episode gets aired. She then revealed that these businesses then look outside for better deals and pitches from different investors, thereby optimising for adequate valuation. She said:

“Once they air, they get better deals outside so then they prefer to go with those. I understand where an entrepreneur is coming from, where they are optimising for valuation, feels unfair… but you have to… I mean that’s the rule of the game.”

Previously, Namita Thapar had taken to her social media handle and penned a post, wherein she described her journey of facing societal taboos. She remarked being ridiculed in the show, Shark Tank India, which didn’t go well with her self-esteem. Namita also revealed being made fun of in her childhood, for being over weight and having facial hair. She finally urged many others like her to come ahead and seek help if needed, and not just sit mum and suffer.

Namita Thapar recalled the struggles she faced in her entrepreneurial journey

Previously, in an interaction with ETimes, Namita Thapar opened up about the challenges she faced to kickstart her entrepreneurial journey, since she belonged from an affluent family. She recalled getting frequently called upon for the same reason, whereas people like her do also face a lot of struggles to establish themselves. Narrating her experience, she said:

“From day one, we get called nepo-kids and are born with a silver spoon and papa ki pari. We are second generation. But what people don’t understand is that when I joined Emcure, we were 500 crores, we are 8000 crores now. To take it to that level as a group, the second and third generations also need to have an entrepreneurial mindset. In India, 87% of our GDP is from family-owned businesses. We are the third largest country, when it comes to just family businesses."
