Nakuul Mehta Recalls Being Rejected By Director For Being 'Too Good Looking', Says, 'Went To Jail..'

Nakuul Mehta has become one of the most talked-about actors in recent times, especially for his work on OTT platforms. However, it has not always been as easy for the actor, as despite a vast body of work on both these platforms, he has had limited visibility in mainstream cinema. However, he began his acting career with the Telugu film, Abhimaani. And now, in a recent conversation, he has reflected on his journey as an actor.

Nakuul Mehta recalls being rejected for being 'too good looking'

In a candid conversation with News18, Nakuul Mehta recalled a major Hindi film he was supposed to be part of. The actor shared why the film never happened and called it the 'weirdest thing'. Nakuul shared that a very popular director and producer was making a sequel, and he was slated to be in it. However, despite having taken pictures and finalised the dates, he was removed from the project.

Nakuul Mehta shared that he was in an acting workshop when the director called him and said he was 'too good looking' for the part. The actor recalled it was a prince's role, and so the reason didn't make any sense. However, he felt like the director could not come up with a better reason. He was quoted as saying:

"I was at an acting workshop when he called and told me, ‘I was thinking about it. I think you’re too good looking for the part ya.’ I said okay. It was the role of a rajkumar from Rajasthan that I was supposed to play. But I kept thinking, what does my look have to do with what character I was to play? Then I realised that he didn’t have a better excuse to give. I didn’t know what to make of that. I was like, what’s he saying?"

Nakuul Mehta reveals that the project never happened

While Nakkul didn't mention who the filmmaker was, he shared that the film was never made, "and the director-producer also recently went to jail. God bless him!" Meanwhile, Nakuul Mehta was recently seen in JioHotstar's Space Gen - Chandrayaan. Recently, he dropped a series of pictures that captured several behind-the-scenes moments, offering fans a glimpse into the journey that went into bringing the show to life.

"This show is a tribute to my wife. Ever since I’ve known her, she has constantly told me, 'Give me space'."

Nakuul Mehta further shared what truly led him to do the series. He revealed that it was its exploration of patriotism through scientists, a community, he believes, that often gets sidelined in the mainstream discourse. He shared that he always wondered what went on behind the scenes, and the series gave him a chance to look into it. He stated:

"I’ve always wondered that once these ISRO scientists achieved the unthinkable with Chadrayaan-3, how did they celebrate in private? You can imagine how cricketers and other sportsmen celebrate their win. But this is a monumental victory. I would assume they woke up and went about doing their routine. I would like to know what that night was like and what their celebratory dinner was like!"
