Netflix’s The Dating App Killer: The Monica White Story turns a 2021 Virginia crime into a tense survival drama. The film follows Monica White, a newly divorced woman who met Anthony Robinson on a dating app seeking companionship, only to walk away after alarming encounters.

Soon after, Robinson was arrested for luring and killing multiple women he met online. The 86-minute Lifetime feature, starring Lela Rochon, dramatizes how Monica’s story intersected with a case that exposed the real dangers of digital dating. While the show is now available for streaming, netizens are also eager to know where Monica White is today.

Monica White did not use a dating app after she learned about Anthony Robinson’s legal issues

53-year-old Monica White was going through a tough divorce outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 2020. She joined several dating apps, including Tagged. There she matched with a man named Anthony Robinson. According to White’s 2022 account to The Washington Post, he reached out with a compliment and said he wanted to know her better.

She said his messages were often focused on her looks. Robinson told her he had previously taught preschool, now worked in waste management, had been engaged before, and had a young daughter. He also said he was attracted to her maturity and confidence. Their texting soon moved to video calls. White told PEOPLE the calls didn’t reveal much about him, and he seemed like a young guy focused on making money.

Over time, Monica felt that he was contacting her too often and sometimes ignored his calls. She learned about his arrest after a cousin sent her a news article with his mugshot. White said once she connected the details, everything made sense. Notably, the duo had a dispute, following which Monica decided to end the relationship. Monica even believed that rejecting him may have contributed to his later violence.

Monica White recalled letting Anthony Robinson stay at her home overnight and later discovering he had killed people, which she described as deeply disturbing. The experience led her to a different outlook. White told PEOPLE she realized she did not need a partner to feel complete and that her happiness came from herself and her faith. As of 2024, she said she had stayed off dating apps, was keeping a low profile, and was no longer actively searching for love.

Monica White witnessed a few problems in Anthony Robinson when they first met

Anthony Robinson came to Monica White’s home in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to meet her in person in 2021. White said he seemed very different from his online personality and that several things immediately concerned her. She recalled him asking her not to judge him too quickly and saying he disliked rejection, which she took as a warning sign.

Despite that, Monica gave Anthony another chance and brought him home. The duo eventually got intimate with each other. White alleged the encounter turned disturbing. She said he did things during sex that were disturbing for her. Monica claimed that Anthony later watched her while she slept after she declined him, and that she refused further intimacy.

She also claimed Anthony tried to restrain her and put his hands around her throat. She didn’t believe he intended to kill her, but said his behavior seemed erratic. He also asked to move in, which she said was too soon. During Monica’s birthday party in 2021, Anthony drank excessively, bothered guests, and flirted with younger men. White also alleged that he urinated in her bed after she refused sex. That led her to end things, and a confrontation followed.

Monica White gave him USD 20 for transportation, but Anthony Robinson didn’t leave. Instead, he went to a gas station and spent the night calling White’s relatives. Robinson then checked into a Harrisburg motel and kept contacting White, asking to meet and offering her money. While Monica refused to meet him, she saw him outside the motel a month later. Notably, Anthony was looking a little different during that period.

About eight months after they met, Robinson was taken into custody for the murders of Allene “Beth” Redmon and Tonita Smith. The victims’ remains were found in a field by a Harrisonburg, Virginia motel, and video reportedly showed him with them and leaving with a shopping cart. A month later, the bodies of two more people, Cheyenne Brown and Stephanie Harrison, were found in a vacant lot near an Alexandria, Virginia hotel.

In December 2021, Fairfax County’s police chief, Kevin Davis, said Robinson had killed four people and that more victims were suspected. In 2025, he was convicted of Redmon and Smith’s murders, and in 2026 received two life sentences plus 10 years and about USD 205,000 in fines, per Rocktown Now. He is also the main suspect in the deaths of Brown and Harrison, alongside two more individuals, Sonya Champ and her former fiancée, Skye Allen.
