Miley Cyrus’s song Flowers, is one of her biggest hits to date. It was in 2023 that Miley Cyrus released the music video for the song. Soon after its release, the video quickly amassed over 1 billion views on YouTube, showcasing how much fans loved it.
For those unaware, in the opening shot of the Flowers MV, Miley was seen wearing a vintage, gold lamé Saint Laurent gown. The dress featured an oversized hood and ab cutouts. While Miley looked absolutely stunning, eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that the gown looked very similar to a dress that Jennifer Lawrence had previously worn. According to reports, Jennifer had worn an almost similar dress back in 2012 for the premiere of her film The Hunger Games.
Miley’s dress in the MV had left many wondering if she intended to take a direct dig at Jennifer. For context, at that time rumors were abuzz about how Liam Hemsworth, who had been dating Miley back when The Hunger Games premiered, had cheated on her with Jennifer. Many believed that this was what caused their breakup.
As the speculations continued to grow, Miley Cyrus eventually had to address them. When the singer was spotted outside of Jimmy Kimmel Live for a shoot, fans swarmed her for autographs. When Miley was signing a placard, a fan from the crowd directly asked Miley, “Was your ‘Flowers’ dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?” To this, Miley replied without hesitation, “No, but I love that dress of hers.”
Miley’s answer put an end to the speculations that she had intended to take a dig at Jennifer Lawrence with her dress in the Flowers MV. It is worth noting that Jennifer, for her part, also addressed the rumors. During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Andy asked the actress:
"There was already a lot of talk that the music video was referencing a secret fling that you had with Liam Hemsworth while he was with Miley Cyrus. Can you please respond to this?"
Fans were shocked that Jennifer did not shy away from the question and took it sportingly. While she did confirm that she kissed Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer made it clear that she never had an affair with him while he was still with Miley. In her words:
"I would love to: Not true, total rumour. I mean, we all know me and Liam, like, kissed one time (in the film 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1'). It was years after they'd broke up. So I just assumed that was, like, a coincidence."

With fans thinking that Miley Cyrus’ dropping her last name has something to do with her having issues with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus quickly stepped in to defend her. He clarified that there was no truth in the same by stating that he had always called the singer just Miley. He added:
"I told @miley yesterday I felt good about her going with her first name. I mentioned Dolly and Cher. Thinking about it more and more, Elvis…Prince...and so on. It's a natural progression for an iconic superstar legend.”
