Michael Mott was recently identified as the person who was hit by a Frontier Airlines plane at the Denver International Airport on May 8, 2026. The aircraft, which was heading towards the Los Angeles International Airport, was immediately evacuated after the incident. The engine was on fire for some time, and the Denver Fire Department managed to control the fire before it could damage anything. Michael Mott's early life and educational background remain a mystery. However, he has a long history of legal issues and they date back to the time when he was 17 years old. Mott allegedly started getting involved in minor criminal activities during that period. This included shoplifting and alcohol consumption at an age when he was not allowed to.
Mott had reportedly turned into a criminal at one point and was also taken into custody after being accused of attempted murder in 2005. Michael was sentenced to six years in the case. This happened after he pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree assault with a weapon, leading to injuries. However, charges of felony assault using a weapon were later imposed on him.

Five years later, in 2010, Michael Mott was eventually released. But the legal problems did not end for him as he was again taken into custody in the same year by the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges, which included felony domestic violence and assault.

Michael Mott’s legal problems continued until 2016, when he was reportedly accused of second-degree burglary. In 2020, he was charged with felony assault on a peace officer, which was eventually dismissed by the Montezuma County District Attorney’s Office. Michael was then frequently arrested on charges such as trespassing, public disputes, violating protection orders, resisting arrest, and more. The records also claimed that Michael Mott had allegedly tried to escape prison in 2017.
His latest legal issue happened in April 2026, when he was arrested on charges of trespassing and property damage. Mott had reportedly tried to resist while he was being taken into custody by the police. The Colorado Springs Police Department told the New York Post that Michael was transported to the El Paso County Jail. However, it remains unknown when he was released. A mugshot of Michael Mott also revealed him appearing in a salt-and-pepper look.
Michael Mott’s identity was first disclosed by the Denver Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Sterling McLaren, on May 12, 2026. Sterling revealed that Mott was 41 years old and he died from “multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.” However, Michael’s motives behind his actions remain unknown, and Sterling shared that the investigators are getting in touch with Mott’s relatives to find more details.

Frontier Airlines said in a statement that the pilots cancelled the takeoff after the man was hit on the runway. The passengers were evacuated with the help of slides, and 12 people were injured. Five of them have already been hospitalised. On the other hand, Phil Washington, the CEO of Denver International Airport, said in a separate statement:
“The person climbed over an approximately 8-foot perimeter fence topped with barbed wire. The person came over the fence at 11:13 p.m., and was hit by the aircraft just two minutes later at 11:15 p.m. while crossing Runway 17 Left.”
