Melissa Mae Carlton Reveals Late Daughter Molly's Diagnosis, Family Finds Answers 4 Months Later

Melissa Mae Carlton has recently opened up about the health problem her late daughter, Molly, was diagnosed with. Notably, Molly died in December 2025, and the latest update arrives four months after the child’s sudden demise. For the unversed, Melissa is a mother of three more children. She lost her second daughter, Abigail, in 2024, who passed away due to sepsis.

Melissa Mae Carlton took to her Instagram handle on April 23, 2026, to share a video. She added a text on top of the clip, saying that her family has finally got the answer related to Molly’s diagnosis. Melissa started by expressing gratitude to everyone for their prayers and messages. She continued by saying:

“The doctors just could not figure out what the problem was. I remember just thinking, she’s going to wake up and tell me she’s been with Abby and it’s all going to be okay. And it’s going to be this amazing miracle. The doctors, they help her body recover from cardiac event but ultimately could not keep up with us. And we left the hospital that evening completely shell-shocked and terrified, knowing that we had to go back and tell our now two children that they just lost another sister.”

Melissa Mae Carlton expressed relief over the fact that her family was able to find closure for Molly’s death four months later. The online personality stated that they are completely certain that it is the same condition that led to the death of Abigail, which was PPA 2. Melissa described it as a genetic mitochondrial condition that is passed down by parents, who are the carriers of the problem.

In her latest video, Melissa Mae Carlton said that although PPA2 is not a heart problem, it can lead to arrhythmia or heart failure if the mitochondria fail to power the heart. Melissa mentioned that it is necessary to create awareness about the health issue, adding that many doctors are not well-aware of it. Mae Carlton said that her family members are already undergoing tests for the same to ensure that no one else has been diagnosed with it.

Furthermore, Melissa Mae Carlton said that her family was able to find everything about Molly’s diagnosis because of an organisation called Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. She revealed that it was the same organisation that helped her with the genetic testing. Melissa opened up on other details related to the organisation and wrote in the caption:

“They also provide support for grieving families and are working to advance research so more answers can be found. If you are a parent who has experienced a sudden or unexplained loss, please reach out to them for support and access to genetic testing.”
