The music industry is currently mourning the loss of one of its songwriting gems, Talay Riley. The singer-songwriter unfortunately passed away at the young age of 35 following a stabbing incident. Talay Riley passed away at the age of 35

Talay Riley was a British singer-songwriter who rose to fame for his work with some major artists. However, it was on June 5, 2026 (ET) that he was involved in an unfortunate incident. According to the Metropolitan Police, officials discovered a man in the Silvertown area of East London with multiple stab wounds on Friday, June 5, 2026. It was soon after that he was identified as the songwriter, according to an official press release. Unfortunately, by the time he was transported to the hospital, Talay Riley had already passed away and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

British authorities launched a homicide investigation, and police said three people were allegedly involved in the crime. They noted two men and a woman: a 27-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were suspected to be involved and were later taken into custody on suspicion of murder. However, Talay Riley wasn't the only one hurt in the incident. According to reports, another man in his 20s was also stabbed and is in the hospital. Nonetheless, the authorities have confirmed that his condition is not life-threatening.

Who was Talay Riley?

According to reports, Talay Riley, born Mark Olabanji A. Olayinka A. Orabiyi, was a professional singer and songwriter. He was born on July 10, 1990, in London and had already signed a major publishing deal with Global Publishing at the young age of 18. His first appearance was in 2009 along with rapper, Chipmunk on Look For Me. However, he soon changed tracks and was signed by Major Label Jive/Sony Records. Over the course of his short but impactful career, he released some solo singles, including Make You Mine and Not Enough.

He even featured on several songs over the years, such as Zero After Zero by KRSNA and Kshmr, Dirty Love by Wilkinson, and It's All Love by Scorcher. Talay Riley also had an impressive writing discography, which included Who's Laughing Now for Jessie J, In My City for Ellie Goulding, Zero, Rock Your Body and Fine by Me for Chris Brown, Levels for Nick Jonas, Clumsy for Britney Spears, Young Dumb & Broke for Khalid, Last Dance and Hotter Than Hell for Dua Lipa.

Talay Riley's sudden death has left everyone heartbroken. Moreover, it was the circumstances under which he passed away that further left the industry in tears. Amid that, his brother, Michael Orabiyi, penned an emotional post mourning his loss. A part of the post read:

"I never thought the day would come when I'd be writing this, but unfortunately, I can confirm that on the morning of Friday, 5th June, my big brother YINKA (Talay Riley) passed away. My heart is shattered! This doesn't feel real. It feels like a bad dream. Just before he went to sleep, we spoke about the future, staying positive and about everything we still had left to do. I never imagined that would be our last conversation."
