Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleSandra Bullock is opening up about her life away from the Hollywood spotlight, three years after she lost her long-time partner Bryan Randall to ALS. As the Miss Congeniality star prepares to return to the big screen, she recently shared a carousel of personal photos featuring family, friends and outdoor adventures, including a rare glimpse of her two children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 12.
Bullock has long kept her children out of the spotlight as she herself prioritized living a quieter life in recent years. The actress finally broke her silence about the grief of losing Bryan in a recent interview, but sources had previously mentioned how her children remained especially important in dealing with the loss. The children shared a close bond with Bryan Randall, who died in August 2023 at 57 following a private battle with ALS.
Who are Sandra Bullock's children?
Bullock has no biological kids of her own, but she is a proud mother of two. The actress adopted her son, Louis, in 2010, and five years later, she welcomed her daughter, Laila, into her family.
The actress has consistently protected both children from the intense attention that comes with being raised by one of Hollywood's biggest stars. She rarely shares identifiable photos of them, although she has occasionally offered fans small glimpses of their lives.

In June 2026, Bullock shared throwback photos of Louis and Laila with her late father, John W. Bullock, for Father's Day. She captioned the emotional tribute, “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day, Dad. [red heart emoji]." She also marked Mother's Day with a rare family photo and described motherhood as the "honor of a lifetime."
A source previously told PEOPLE that Bullock had spent the years following Randall's death focused on her children and her own healing. The source said:
"She spent a lot of time healing, being with her kids and being at home. She needed to ensure that she and her kids were in the best possible place for her to go back to work."
Sandra Bullock stepped away from Hollywood for her family
Bullock's decision to step back from acting wasn't sudden. In March 2022, she announced that she planned to take an indefinite break so she could spend more time with her children, and more importantly, with her late partner, who quietly battled ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) for three years until his passing in August 2023.
When she decided to step away from Hollywood, Bullock explained that her career had effectively been a "24/7" commitment and said she wanted to be there for her children and family for a while. The actress told Entertainment Tonight that she needed to be "in the place that makes [her] happiest" and "I just want to be ’24/7′ with my babies and my family."
Her priorities became even more personal after Randall's death. The couple had been together since 2015, and Randall played an important role in the lives of Bullock's children. Randall shared a close bond with the kids, and the couple had built a loving, blended family dynamic, together with Louis, Laila, and Bryan's daughter from a past relationship, Skylar.
Following Bryan's death, Bullock largely stayed away from the Hollywood spotlight, focusing on home and family while grieving privately. And now, the actress is entering a new chapter.

Sandra Bullock is reprising her role as 'Sally Owens' in Practical Magic 2, reuniting with Nicole Kidman for the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 fantasy film. The project marks her first major acting role following her extended break. A source said Bullock has been closely involved with the project as both an actor and producer and is enjoying the experience. "She has worked on this project for the last few years... to get it made as a producer and as an actor, and she's having fun with the entire process."
After her much-needed break, Sandra Bullock is ready to step into the limelight again, and her kids have been her biggest cheerleaders through it all.
