Ex-FBI chief, Robert Mueller passed away on the night of March 20, 2026. He was 81 years old when he left for the heavenly abode. His family confirmed the devastating news of his demise. For the unversed, Robert led the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2001 to 2013. He retired from the FBI in 2013, after serving under both a Republican president, George W Bush, and a Democrat, Barack Obama.
In 2016, Robert investigated Russian interference and links between the US President, Donald Trump and Moscow. This investigation made headlines and is widely known as the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation. While this profession grabbed the limelight, his personal life was kept under wraps for security reasons. Reportedly, he is survived by his wife and their two children. Amid the loss, let’s delve deep to know more about his lesser-known family life.

Robert Mueller was born in 1944. He studied politics at Princeton University. Later, after completing his studies at Princeton University, he joined the Marines and was sent to Vietnam in 1968. As a lieutenant, he led a military unit. According to a report by the BBC, he was wounded twice in battle. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. After his return from war, he went to the University of Virginia to study law. In 1973, he graduated from the University of Virginia. In August 2001, Robert Mueller was unanimously confirmed as the FBI director by the Senate. He served the agency for more than a decade.

Robert was married to his high school sweetheart, Ann Cabell Standish. When they crossed paths for the first time, they were just 17 years old. The couple was married for more than six decades. They have two daughters, Cynthia and Melissa. According to a report by Your Tango, one of their daughters was born with Spina Bifida, a spinal condition that is present at birth. As per a report by People, Robert is survived by his wife, Ann, their two daughters, Cynthia and Melissa and their three grandchildren. As Cynthia and Melissa lead a private life, nothing as such is known about their marriage and profession.

Robert Mueller passed away on March 20, 2026. The next day, March 21, 2026, the family confirmed the devastating news of his death at the age of 81. His death has left his family heartbroken. According to multiple reports, Robert served as the FBI director, and later he served as Special Counsel. Robert’s former employers and colleagues lauded him for his dedication towards work. Former FBI director, James Comey, who succeeded Robert Mueller at the agency, paid his tribute to him. He called Robert a great American. James wrote, "A great American died today, one I was lucky enough to learn from and stand beside." For the uninitiated, James’ abrupt firing by Donald Trump led to the highly publicised Mueller investigation.

For those unaware, Robert Mueller worked in the law firm, WilmerHale. A spokesman for his former law firm, WilmerHale, also paid his final respects to him. The spokesman called him an 'extraordinary leader'. He wrote:
"He was an extraordinary leader and public servant and a person of the greatest integrity."
