According to reports by TMZ, the young man had dealt with d**g-related legal trouble and passed away after an emergency at his home. Soon after his demise, his death was further confirmed by his mother, Mary Cosby.

The Real Housewives fame took to her Instagram handle and penned a heartfelt note sharing the tragic news of her son's passing. According to TMZ, while an official statement is still awaited, fire officials and medics responded to his residence on Monday night, February 23, 2026 (ET), the outlet revealed. In her note, Mary Cosby shared that her son, Robert Cosby Jr., was called by God. She added that while their hearts are aching at the loss, they have found comfort in the fact that he is now at peace. The note could be read as:

"Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace."

It was on November 24, 2025, when Alexiana filed for divorce in Salt Lake County District Court, shortly after Robert Cosby Jr.'s multiple arrests. The arrests included a series of incidents, including the first arrest in September 2025 for a misdemeanour domestic violence matter related to her. It was followed by another arrest in November 2025 for violating a protective order at Alexiana's parents' home.

Robert Cosby Jr. had faced multiple run-ins with police in his short lifespan. He was arrested in March 2022 for DUI involving drug use. Later, he was arrested in September 2025 on charges including assault, criminal trespassing and violating court orders after an incident at his father-in-law's home. In November 2025, he was jailed for violating a protective order and assaulting a peace officer.

While he was released after two months in early 2026, prosecutors soon filed new felony assault and aggravated assault charges linked to a 2024 incident with his then-wife, Alexiana. Robert Cosby Jr.'s lawyer, Clayton Simms, told PEOPLE that his client tried to reconcile with Alexiana Smokoff but acknowledged that the marriage had formally ended.

"Today, Robert Cosby took responsibility for the mistakes he has made and the pain he has caused his ex-wife and her family. Robert was slow to recognise that his marriage was over. He continued to make contact with his ex-wife in an effort to reconcile. He now realises that the relationship is over and he must move on."

According to a report by TMZ, the officials described the situation at Robert Cosby Jr.'s home as a "full arrest/medical emergency." It involved a 23-year-old male, though the identity was not confirmed.
