Meet LeBron James' Son Bronny James, All About NBA Star Amid His Season-High In Spurs Vs Lakers Game

Bronny James is a much-loved American professional basketball player. If his last name sounds familiar to you, it is because he is the eldest son of everyone's favourite NBA player, LeBron James. Bronny started playing basketball from a very young age, and by the time he was 10 years old, he was already drawing national attention. He continued to play the sport throughout his high school, and when he started attending college, he made his debut for the USC Trojans on December 10, 2023. After playing one season with them, Bronny James began his professional basketball career when he was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft.  

It is worth mentioning that Bronny James joining the Los Angeles Lakers paired him with his father, LeBron James, and together they became the first father-son duo in NBA history to play at the same time. More recently, Bronny has been in the spotlight after scoring a season-high 12 points and six assists in the February 11, 2026, Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs game. Although the Lakers lost 136-108, Bronny showed everyone what he was capable of, especially with their entire starting lineup missing, including his father, LeBron James. Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in June 2024 

It was on June 27, 2024, that Bronny James was selected by the same team that his father, LeBron James, played for. On that day, he was the 55th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA draft. Former Lakers player, Magic Johnson, took to his X handle at the time and made sure everyone knew it was “a historic moment because LeBron and Bronny are the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time and on the same team.”  

According to reports, LeBron was super committed to playing his last NBA season on the same team as his son and was ready to do “whatever it takes” to make his dream come true. LeBron and Bronny played their first NBA game together in October 2024. During a conversation with ESPN, LeBron confessed that being able to work with his son is “one of the greatest things that a father can hope for or wish for.”  

Bronny James and his high school basketball team defeated LeBron James's alma mater  

During the 2019 Scholastic Play by Play Classic tournament, Bronny James and his high school team beat St. Vincent- St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. The reason why this win was noteworthy for the father and son was that the school Bronny defeated happened to be LeBron's alma mater. Additionally, he was also present in the stands when Bronny scored the winning point for Sierra Canyon School during the game's final seconds. After witnessing the same, LeBron said that it was a surreal feeling seeing his son go up against his alma mater and win, also tagging it as a "storybook moment.” 

Bronny James played in the McDonald's All American Game 20 years after his father 

Bronny James was named as one of the 24 athletes from all over the nation to participate in the McDonald's Annual All American Game in March 2023. It is worth mentioning that 20 years ago, in 2003, his father, LeBron James, also played in the same all-star game himself. During the match, which took place at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Bronny, who was part of Team West, managed to score 15 points. What caught everyone's eyes, however, was that in a sweet gesture, Bronny chose to wear a number 23 jersey in honour of his father.  

Bronny James played basketball for USC 

For college, Bronny James decided to attend the University of Southern California (USC). He announced the same via a social media post, which he captioned, “Fight On #committed.” According to his dad, LeBron James, Bronny is the first “of the James gang to go to college.” He said: 

"Obviously, his dad didn't go to school. His mom didn't go to college. My mom maybe stepped on campus for a little bit, maybe a community college or something, but she had [me] running around, so she couldn't spend much time in the classroom. It's very, very, very, very exciting, very humbling and a great moment for our family." 

Bronny James suffered from cardiac arrest in July 2023 

According to reports, while Bronny James was in the midst of a basketball practice session at USC in July 2023, he suffered from a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital and the next day, a representative for the James family gave an update on Bronny's condition. They stated that the medical staff at his college were able to treat Bonny before taking him to the hospital, and at the time, he had been discharged from the ICU because he was in a stable condition.

While many questioned when Bronny would be fit enough to return to playing basketball, a spokesperson for the family, in August 2023, said that it would happen “in the very near future,” and that they were confident in his full recovery. This was proven true as in December of the same year, Bronny James made his USC basketball debut with the Trojans. LeBron James, who cheered for his son proudly from the sidelines, took to his social media account after the match and wrote: 

"Can’t even tell y’all how EMOTIONAL today was for me! I’m literally drained and all I can say is @bronny you’re simply INCREDIBLE!! Proud of you kid and today you’ve given me more life! Thank you and I love you."
