VD Satheesan is a senior Indian National Congress leader who was named as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala. His appointment followed the Congress-led United Democratic Front's (UDF) massive victory in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, in which it secured 102 out of 140 seats. It subsequently shifted the political winds in the state by ending a decade of rule by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Talking about Satheesan's educational background, not many know that he is a trained lawyer. The politician holds an LLM from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Service.

Satheesan worked as an advocate at the Kerala High Court for nearly a decade. He later switched to politics and built an impressive political profile, being a six-time MLA from the Paravur constituency, which he represented since 2001. R Lakshmi Priya is the better half of the new Chief Minister of Kerala, Vadassery Damodaran Satheesan. She is reportedly a native of Aluva from the Ernakulam district, while her husband was born and brought up in the Nettur region of Kochi. According to Times Now Malayalam, Satheesan and Lakshmi were engaged in an arranged marriage. He revealed that she was the first person he met at Pennukanal, a formal marriage proposal meeting. He liked her and didn't feel the need to meet any other women thereafter. Then the couple's marriage was fixed, shortly after he lost his first election in 1996.

Satheesan found Lakshmi at a time when he wasn't doing very well in his career. According to be same report, after losing his first election, he had faced crises for five years.
