Jenna Bush Hager is a renowned American news personality, author and journalist. Many might know her as the co-host of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, NBC's morning news program. Additionally, she is also the daughter of former US President George W. Bush.
Currently, Jenna is in the spotlight for saying that she isn't worried about her daughters wearing a “cut-out or two” when they go to prom in the future. She made the statement during the April 24, 2026, episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. For those unaware, Jenna shares three children with her husband, Henry Chase Hager. If you are curious to learn more about Henry and their relationship, here's everything we know.

According to a People report, Jenna Bush Hager met her now-husband, Henry Chase Hager, in 2004 on her father, former President George W. Bush's, campaign trail. Apparently, Henry was working as a staff assistant for Karl Rove at the time. For those unaware, Karl served as the senior advisor to President Bush. As per the publication, Henry also had a girlfriend at the time.

Years later, in 2019, during an interview with Hoda Kotb on Today, Jenna confessed that she and Henry “smooched” after mutual friends invited him over to watch the Texas football game. Recalling how quickly Jenna and Henry's relationship progressed after that, a friend of Henry's said, “On Election Day, they were friends. By the Inaugural, they were at item.”

On another segment of the Today show, Jenna recounted her worst date and how it featured her husband, Henry and the Secret Service. She told Hoda Kotb, “My worst first date involved the Secret Service, let's just leave it at that.” She said that when she was with Henry, his car had unfortunately run out of gas. That is when it went backwards and hit the Secret Service. At the time, the pair were in Virginia, where Henry used to live. When Henry realised that they needed to stop for fuel, he decided to go to the nearest gas station. The car didn't make it all the way there because it was up a hill. Jenna said, “I was laughing, but he was horrified.”

While appearing on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Jenna went on to recall another hilarious and embarrassing story from when she and Henry had just begun dating. She shared that at the time her parents were travelling and she was staying at the White House. Jenna said, “We'd gone out to the bars and, like all relationships do, it reached a certain level.” After coming back, Henry had fallen asleep and accidentally spent the night. Jenna explained, “He woke up, and he looked around. He was like ‘Aaaaaaah’ because he worked for my dad.” Henry then tried to sneak out of the White House, but his efforts were futile as he ended up getting caught by the Secret Service.

Once Jenna confessed that she had given Henry a “manipulative ultimatum.” She told him in what she called a dramatic fashion that if he didn't want her to move to Latin America, they needed to get engaged. While Henry told her that he wasn't going to propose, Jenna was under the impression that he had changed his mind shortly after that. She said that around Valentine's Day, the duo went to a fancy restaurant which allowed its customers to make their own fortune cookies. Jenna explained:
"They brought two glasses of champagne at the end of the meal, and tied around one was the fortune, which they got wrong. It was supposed to say something like, 'Go, and when you come back, I'll be here.' But all it said was, 'Don't go.' With champagne."
This made Jenna go, “Yes! I will marry you!” And soon enough, Henry's face completely dropped. Jenna noted that he could have even cried at that point. Apparently, there was another couple in the restaurant who had witnessed their exchange and had spoken out to the reporters, leading to a story in The Washington Post. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end as it became a funny memory for Jenna and Henry.

Not many might be aware, but Jenna was the one who proposed to Henry for the first time, that too after three months of dating, when she was just 22 years old. However, Henry turned her down, saying that even though he was crazy about her, she was young. A couple of years down the line, though, the couple got engaged while they were on a hiking trip together in Maine. She said:
"We hiked to Cadillac Mountain, which is the first place the sun hits the United States. When the sun rose, he proposed.”

The day after Henry turned 30, on May 10, 2008, he and Jenna got married at the Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas. According to reports, the wedding had 200 guests. Former President Bush even called it spectacular and everything they could have hoped for. Apparently, he was the one who had helped build the cross where Henry stood during the ceremony. According to Jenna, the cross is still at that place, and their kids have also had the chance to stand on it. For the unversed, Henry and Jenna share three children together: Margaret Laura Hager, Poppy Louise Hager, and Henry Harold ‘Hal’ Hager.
