Jeffrey MacDonald’s wife, Emma MacDonald, was reportedly discovered inside the UMass Campus Center hotel when police officers arrived at the location on April 22, 2026, during the evening hours. The officers responded to a 911 call about an emergency from a room inside the hotel. According to CBS News, Jeffrey allegedly threw objects towards the police officers when they first arrived. Kerri Tillett, the Associate Vice Chancellor of Equal Opportunity and Access, addressed the release of more information related to the incident by saying that the situation can take a different turn if the media releases any information through public records. Kerri continued:
“When we lose a member of our community, we try to work closely with those closest to them to learn and respect their wishes regarding communication. While this approach may not always align with a 24-hour media cycle, it is one we will continue to follow.”
Apart from the UMass Amherst Police Department, the case is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit and the Massachusetts Crime Scene Services Section.
