Meet Emily Maynard's Husband, Tyler Johnson, As He Becomes A Grandfather To Ricki Hendrick's Child

Emily Maynard is one of the most recognisable faces from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise. Notably, she appeared on the show's 8th season as a contestant. However, she gained national attention later, in 2011, after she got engaged to Brad Womack on season 15 of The Bachelor. Sadly, their relationship did not last long, and the following year Emily was announced as the lead of The Bachelorette in 2012. What set her apart from most of her predecessors on the show was that, while the season was filmed, Emily was a single mother looking for love. Post the show, she was briefly engaged with Jef Holm.  

When Emily Maynard returned to her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, after her breakup with Jef, it was here that she reconnected with her now-husband, Tyler Johnson. Apparently, Emily had known him beforehand as they went to the same church. Eventually, Emily and Tyler tied the knot in 2014 and have welcomed five children together. Currently, the duo have also become grandparents, after Emily's daughter, Ricki Hendrick, recently gave birth to her first child, Romi. How did Emily Maynard and Tyler Johnson meet? 

Emily has had her fair share of experience with love, especially after her runs on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. However, as life would have it, she found herself the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with after her show was over. It was in 2017 that Emily revealed how she met her now-husband, Tyler Johnson. During a casual conversation on Good Morning America, she said that she and Tyler first met at church. Recalling the time, Emily confessed that, surprisingly, Tyler "wanted nothing to do with me." This led her to tell one of her friends that she "met this guy, and he could, like, not be less attracted to me." Furthermore, Emily revealed that he was in her friend zone after their encounter.

According to reports, Emily and Tyler tied the knot in June 2014 on the latter's family farm located in South Carolina. Just a year ago, in June 2025, the couple celebrated 11 years of their marriage. On the occasion of their anniversary, Emily took to her official Instagram account to tell her husband, Tyler, that she is "so proud to be your wife." She also wrote about how she loved him "more than words".  

Coming to their children, Emily and Tyler welcomed their first child, a son named Jenning, in 2015, less than a year after their marriage. Soon, they expanded their family once again in 2016 when they gave birth to their second son, Gibson. In 2017, the couple was blessed with another boy whom they named Gatlin. The former Bachelorette welcomed her fourth child and only daughter with Tyler in 2020, whom they lovingly named Magnolia. Two years later, their fifth child, a son named Jones, was born to them in 2022. Jones, however, unlike the rest of his siblings, was born with Down syndrome, as revealed by Emily at the time. Following the revelation, in November 2022, Tyler took to his Instagram to pen a tribute to his wife. He wrote: 

“This journey has been difficult but absolutely beautiful. The love of our family and community has been water to our souls. I will say that my wife deserves every bit of praise that she gets. She is a gift to me and our family and I am in awe of her. I love you so much, babe.”

For those unaware, in addition to the five children they share, Tyler and Emily are also parents to a daughter, Ricky Hendrick. Long before Tyler and Emily got together, the latter was engaged to NASCAR driver, Ricky Hendrick. Unfortunately, he passed away during a plane crash in 2004. After his death, Emily found out that she was pregnant with his child, and a year later, she welcomed their daughter, Josephine Riddick “Ricki” Hendrick.  

While Tyler was courting Emily, she had been a strong presence in Ricki's life. In January 2014, while speaking about her engagement to Tyler, Emily revealed that he “gave both Ricki and me rings,” while he proposed at home. She also added that Ricki loved her then-husband-to-be more than she liked her own mother. Tyler was also by Emily's daughter's side when she graduated from high school in 2024. He penned a long note in June of the same year, extending his heartfelt congratulations to Ricki. His note on Instagram can be read as: 

“She’s graduated!!! About 10 years ago, in basically the exact same place, we became a family. I fell in love with this little blonde girl. No one…and I mean no one…loves you more than me. Except for maybe mommy @emilygmaynard. Congratulations! I am excited for the next chapters!” 

In August 2025, Ricki announced that she is expecting her first baby. According to reports, she finally gave birth on January 23, 2026, with the happy news first shared by Emily on her social media. Later, Tyler posted a picture of the newborn on his Instagram Story and gushed: 

“What a day. No words. Just every ounce of love I have for my baby and her baby.”
