33-year-old Elizabeth Siders became the focus of a statewide case in June 2026 after 16 children were found inside a house in Hamden, Ohio, following a search conducted by the authorities. Officials revealed that the children were discovered living in a bad condition, and Siders, along with three other adults, were charged with child endangerment. The children are now in state custody.

Marriage records from Mason County, West Virginia, show Elizabeth Siders married Gary Siders Jr. in March 2008, at the Mason County Courthouse. According to her attorney, she was 15 at the time, and Gary Siders Jr. was 18. The couple’s eldest child was born two months later.

Public records indicate the family lived in Gallia County for about a decade. Addresses connected to them were listed in Bidwell, Gallipolis, and Cheshire between 2009 and 2020. In October 2021, Elizabeth and Gary Siders were charged in the Juvenile Court Division of the Gallia County Court of Common Pleas with truancy-related offenses involving six of their children.

Court records state that the six children had not attended a single day of school at Addaville Elementary. School officials said they notified the parents about the absentees, but no action was taken. Deputies sent to serve the summons reported the house was vacant. In January 2022, the cases were terminated due to the unavailability of the defendants.

The law enforcement executed search warrants at a residence in Hamden, Ohio, in June 2026. The warrants were connected to a separate investigation into alleged indecent exposure incidents involving Gary Siders Jr. When officers entered, they found 16 children in a 12-foot by 12-foot room. Officials said they had not expected to find children inside the house.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office said the children were in a severe state of neglect, being covered in insects and feces. They were removed and taken to local hospitals. Some received care and were released, while others stayed for further treatment, with one child reportedly intubated. Neighbors told reporters they did not know children lived there, and school records did not show the children were enrolled locally.

After the search, four adults were arrested and arraigned on July 1, 2026. This included Gary Siders Jr., 36; Elizabeth Siders, 33; Gary Siders Sr., 73; and Christina Siders, 67. They were identified as the children’s parents and grandparents. Each faces 16 counts of second-degree felony child endangering. Each count carries two to eight years, with a maximum of 12 years. All four pleaded not guilty and are being held on a USD 300,000 bond. An attorney for Elizabeth Siders confirmed to investigators that she is the mother of all 16 children.

Court documents and news reports also noted a loss in the family. Back in November 2022, Elizabeth Siders gave birth to conjoined twins who died the same day of natural causes. The condition was identified as thoracopagus.

Since the arrests, the 16 children have remained in state custody. Reporting describes the eldest as an 18-year-old woman who was unable to write her own name and was said to have severe developmental disabilities. Elizabeth Siders is seeking a reduced bond so she can reunite with her children. Court records obtained by PEOPLE state she has filed to have her bond lowered for that purpose. Stolly said in a court filing:

“Through conversations with Counsel, the Defendant maintains that her principal desire (is) to reunite with her children; she understands that reunification of any sort is an impossibility if she does not appear before this Court.”

Her attorney, Thomas Stolly, spoke about her priorities after the arrest. He said the first thing she asked in jail was not about her case, but about her children. According to Stolly, Elizabeth asked if the children were fine and wanted to know their whereabouts. Thomas said that she also wanted to see them again.

The case remains pending. All four defendants are in custody, and if convicted on all counts, each one of them is expected to face up to 192 years in prison.
