Certain movies may not have an over-the-top storyline or an intrigue element, but they still do wonders at the box office. This is because the cast of the movie is someone people admire, appreciate, and they have a huge fan following who do not want to miss any of their movies. It would be one individual actor or actress, or even a pair.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also share a similar reputation. The duo has starred in multiple movies over the years. Let’s look at some of the movies the duo did together that did amazingly well on the big screen.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck didn’t just grow up together in Boston; they also rose to fame together, making their mark individually. They began by playing extras on certain sets but were given no credits for those roles. Their first big on-screen appearance was in School Ties in 1992. They starred alongside Brendan Fraser and Anthony Rapp as competitive prep school students. Damon played the role of Fraser’s rival, while Affleck had a smaller role comparatively.
The two play the role of bullies who harass Fraser for his Jewish faith in the movie. Matt’s character completely took over Affleck, and the movie became all about him. The two actors might make a mighty presence on screen, but in their actual school days, they were not as popular. In fact, it was once revealed in an interview with Damon’s brother that the two were not the cool kids but drama geeks. Although the movie is not available on OTT platforms on a subscription basis in India it can be watched after renting it on Prime Video or Apple TV.
Directed by Gus Van Sant and written by Affleck and Damon themselves, the movie won them their first Oscar. The movie is known for its stellar performances and its apt portrayal of self-discovery, trauma, therapy and becoming a new version of themselves, transforming their lives. Their characters had depth and authenticity, which made them relatable to the viewers. It can be watched on Netflix in India or can be purchased on bought on rent on Prime Video.

They set the drama in their hometown, Boston, and did not experiment with writing or innovation; instead, they wrote what they knew. Despite featuring the image of a typical bad boy, Good Will Hunting deals with the character and the storyline with a lot of passion, heart, and conversations that stir emotions. The movie was nominated for several awards, and the two triumphed in the best screenplay category at the Oscars. Their co-star, the late Robin Williams, won the best supporting actor for the role.
Air is an enjoyable and easy-to-watch sports drama, made special by the performances of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Damon plays 'Sonny Vaccaro', a Nike employee who believes in Michael Jordan at a time when Nike is struggling and is far behind other brands in its field. His performance shows 'Sonny’s' strong determination and passion, especially in his meaningful conversations. His speech towards the end clearly delivers the film’s message about believing in yourself and never giving up.
Ben Affleck does well as Nike CEO Phil Knight, but his direction is the real highlight of the film. He keeps the story fast, fun, and interesting, even during scenes with heavy dialogue. With a smart script, light humour, and a nostalgic soundtrack, Air remains engaging throughout. Even if you are not a basketball fan, the film is a warm, inspiring watch driven by strong performances and a powerful story. Viewers and fans can enjoy the movie on Prime Video in multiple regions, including India.

Ever since the grand success of Good Will Hunting, the duo got together to co-write The Last Duel with Nicole Holofcener’s contribution. Ridley Scott, a living legend, directed the epic historical drama about the last judicial duel in France. The cast featured Damon, Affleck, Jodie Comer, and Adam Driver. The movie is, however, not available for streaming on OTT platforms in India but can be purchased digitally.
Told in three unique chapters, The Last Duel recounts the judicial duel between 'Jean de Carrouges' and 'Jacques le Gris' following the latter’s alleged rape of 'Jean’s' wife, 'Marguerite' played by Jodie Comer. Although it was great writing, the movie did not do so well at the box office. Despite the financial losses, the movie saw the cast doing their top-notch acting and giving life to the roles they were cast in. It dealt with issues of assault, power dynamics, abuse, gender disparity, and violence, making it not an easy watch.
Released in 2026 on Netflix, The RIP stars Affleck and Damon in a Joe Carnahan narcotics crime thriller. They team up with Steven Yeun and Teyana Taylor as cops who uncover millions of dollars of cash hidden away. They are members of the Miami narcotics officers who come upon a cartel stash house that 'Lt. Dane Dumars, played by Damon, may have USD 150,000 hidden in the walls.

It turns out to be more than USD 20 million, though, and their mission immediately turns from a Friday afternoon smash-and-grab into an imminent siege where no one can be trusted. It's another Friday debut on Netflix, which has police officers as almost every character that’s been cast and a typical story dealing with who’s good and who’s bad in the cop world.
Despite being great actors on screen, the duo have been great friends and an unwavering support for each other in their personal lives as well. Damon helped Affleck navigate his life through his divorce and struggles with addiction. Their friendship goes beyond just acting, red carpets and media appearances; they grew up together, helped each other in their careers and applauded on each other’s wins. While Damon may not give big speeches about their love, friendship and what a great friend he has been when it comes to supporting and cheering for Ben, he is the loudest and first in line.
As the audience and the Hollywood industry in general have seen the duo grow, succeed, fall, rise, reunite, stumble, fight, but never not support each other.
