Maura Higgins shuts down spat rumors with Mark Ballas
Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas wowed judges with their Foxtrot to Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. However, while fans were in awe of their performance, one question loomed: whether the pair had alleged tension behind the scenes. And without letting the speculations brew, Maura told Good Morning America that she was extremely nervous going into the dance, but that Mark "spoke to me and the life came back a little bit then."
Maura also credited him for their great score, and confirmed that their dynamic is incredibly friendly. Additionally, a source also confirmed that all was well between Maura and Mark in a statement to The Sun and said:
"Maura is surprisingly one of the few who is struggling the most. She is struggling to remember her choreography, which has made for some stressful rehearsals. She has a brother/sister relationship with Mark, so they do get snappy with each other sometimes. They bicker, but it's all love at the end of the day because he wants her to do well. I think both Maura and Mark overestimated her ballroom abilities, though, because it's been much harder than either of them thought."

While Mark Ballas has been making headlines for his performance on DWTS, fans should know he isn't the only performer in his family. Yes, his wife, BC Jean Ballas, has her own career as a musician. She also comes from a musical family. According to Broadway Wiz, her grandparents had previously worked with singers Perry Como and Fred Waring, and her father was a trumpet player.
Jean also found herself drawn to poetry at age 5. However, she transitioned into songwriting as a teenager. Her years of dedication paid off when she landed a gig with Beyoncé and collaborated on the song If I Were A Boy with the star. Talking to Songwriting Magazine, she recalled the story behind the song and said:
"I wrote from such personal experiences; I never imagined that someone else would ever want to sing about my ex-boyfriend! So I was like, 'Tell her, thank you,' but they were like, 'No, you don't understand, she has to have this song!' Then I got lots of calls from lots of people being very, very persuasive, and the next thing I know, Beyoncé is singing the song, and I'm getting signed to Clive Davis' label, J Records."
Talking about her relationship with Mark Ballas, Jean met her now-husband at a mutual friend's party. In a March 2022 interview with Riff Magazine, the couple recalled how Mark was impressed by Jean's singing. He shared that her voice gave him the feels of "Janis Joplin". They exchanged numbers at the party and started collaborating professionally. However, they soon realized that they "had great chemistry both on and off the stage."
After being together for a while, Mark Ballas proposed to his lady love and got down on one knee in 2015. He lined the driveway of their Los Angeles home with roses and violets, and decorated the interior with pieces that reflected BC Jean's interests, including posters of her favorite bands. The couple tied the knot a year later on November 25, 2016, and announced the arrival of their baby boy, Banksi, on November 5, 2023.
Mark Ballas and BC Jean Ballas have been going strong ever since, working on both their personal and professional goals. The pair is often seen cheering each other through every milestone, being each other's biggest supporters.
