Marilyn Monroe was the face of some of the biggest projects of her time, and there is no question why she rose to the top in a male-led industry. The actress was the definition of perfection, with the perfect looks, skills, and persona to become a leading star in the entertainment industry. However, she was often seen merely as a sex symbol and considered a "Dumb Blond" despite her impeccable intellect and enormous heart.
Marilyn Monroe rose to fame for her work in films such as How to Marry a Millionaire. However, with fame came constant limelight, public scrutiny and exploitation. And, unfortunately for the star, her life contained more tragedies than happiness. Often regarded as the sex symbol of the 1950s and early 1960s, she was the decade's top-billed actress. Nonetheless, instead of being treated with the honour and dignity she deserved, her grave was exploited by the two men for their own gratification.

Marilyn Monroe was found dead on August 5, 1962, and the cause of her death was later ruled out as an overdose. The actress was taken to the Abbott and Hast funeral home, where several comments were made about her corpse's appearance and later made public. After a five-day wait, Marilyn's funeral finally took place on August 8, 1962, at the Westwood Village Mortuary Chapel. She was buried afterwards in the Westwood Village Memorial Cemetery. It was organised by her ex-husband, Joe DiMaggio. Even as she passed away, she was dressed in a green Pucci dress and a green chiffon scarf, and the casket was opened for the ceremony.

Several podcasts have talked about the unsettling things that happened to Marilyn Monroe's dead body after her death. However, one of the most disturbing facts about the actress was the dark truths surrounding her resting place. According to reports, a man named Richard Poncher requested to be buried in the space above Marilyn. He also requested to be buried face down so he could 'lie on top of her'.

What further left everyone surprised was the fact that his wish was granted upon his death, and he was buried right over the actress's grave. The incident became a stark reminder of how the sexual image of Marilyn was constantly exploited by men, not just when she was alive but even after her death.

The exploitation didn't end there. The infamous mogul of Playboy magazine, Hugh Hefner, was buried next to Marilyn Monroe. Why is this shocking? Well, he was the same man who used her nude photos without her permission in the first Playmate edition of the magazine in the 1950s.

It has been decades since the actress passed away. However, instead of valuing her contributions to the cinema, cherished for her skills or being remembered as someone with a giant heart, donating to several causes, she is remembered as a "dumb blonde", lipstick wearing sex pot. And the evidence of the same exists on her grave as well, in bright pink and red lipstick marks left by her fans on the monument.
Marilyn Monroe's grave is an unsettling reminder of the importance of integrity in both life and death. What she faced after her death is a constant reminder of the fact that death does not make one exempt from bodily scrutiny and exploitation. While the legal issues regarding the rights of the dead and bodily integrity are complicated and controversial, Marilyn's story keeps reminding us how cruel the world can be, even after you're gone.
