But she not only made a name for herself in the industry but also became synonymous with boldness and unconventional choices in Bollywood. Regarding her personal life, the actress married a pilot named Karan Singh Gill in 1997 but divorced him shortly after to pursue acting.
Mallika Sherawat almost got married to a model 13 years back
After making a name for herself in the industry, Mallika participated in the reality show The Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, in which she set out to find a groom for herself. She almost found her soulmate after the show ended. Hosted by Rohit Roy, the show aired in 2013 and featured 30 men competing to become Mallika’s groom.
In the finale, Vijay Singh defeated the 29 contestants and became the show's winner. Vijay was 24 at that time, and Mallika was 36. Vijay, a model and radio jockey from Dharamshala, dated the actress for some time after the show ended. But soon the duo parted ways and broke up.
Why didn’t Mallika Sherawat get married to Vijay Singh?
In an interview with The Times of India, Vijay revealed why he and Mallika didn’t get married despite having won her love. The model revealed that there was a one-year contract in the show, which stated that the actress could marry him within a year, and after that she could choose not to marry him if she did not wish to.
While they were dating, Mallika kept inviting Vijay to her LA home, but he couldn’t visit her. But after some time, she started giving him hints about their breakup. Speaking about the same, he said:
“After one year, she started subtly dropping hints that 'I was too young for her' and 'Long-distance relationships never work', insinuating that the relationship was over. After a few months, she even stopped taking my phone calls. And I also stopped. I also have self-respect, and how much would I pursue her?"
In the same interaction, Vijay also stated that reality shows are completely fake. He also shared that everything that happens on a show is scripted. Vijay further revealed that he had pinned his hopes on marrying Mallika, but nothing of the sort happened in reality. Citing Rahul Mahajan’s example, Vijay said:
“Except Rahul Mahajan, nobody has ended up being married on the show. It is all fixed, and everything works according to contracts."
According to multiple reports, Vijay left modelling and acting to become an entrepreneur. He manages homestays in Dharamshala and is married and has a child. On the other hand, Mallika Sherawat is still single and is currently participating in the reality show, The Traitor Season 2.
