Amid that, her mother-in-law's lawyer has finally broken the silence on what happened and shared new details about the case.

Ever since the news of Malcolm-Jamal Warner's mother, Pamela Warner, and widow, Dr Tenisha Warner, hashing it out in court made headlines, netizens have been waiting for a statement from the mother-in-law about the entire row. However, while Pamela has maintained her silence on the matter, her lawyer has shared some details on what's going on.
Talking to TMZ, Pamela's lawyer revealed that their client opposed the request to amend the trust but noted she was not trying to exclude MacKenzie. They shared that Pamela cannot ignore her responsibilities and duties as the admin of the trust. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't want to ensure a secure future for her granddaughter. Pamela's lawyer was quoted as saying:
"Quite the contrary, she is very concerned about MacKenzie's well-being and future financial security."
About the lawsuit between Malcolm-Jamal Warner's mother and widow
Malcolm-Jamal Warner's widow, Dr Tenisha Warner, accused Pamela Warner, who serves as a successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust, of withholding her share of Malcolm's estate. The lawsuit was obtained by TMZ on July 21, 2026, after which details revealed that the rift had been going on long before the suit. The report revealed that Tenisha had originally filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court in November 2025, a few months after the actor's July 2025 drowning death.
In the petition, Dr Tenisha Warner revealed that Malcolm-Jamal Warner's trust was created in 1996, but the actor never got around to updating it. However, the actor had assured Tenisha that he would update the said trust after the birth of their daughter, MacKenzie, in 2017. Tenisha said her child faced complete disinheritance because Pamela Warner was unwilling to amend the trust.
She said Malcolm took care of them during his life and planned to continue to do so. For the unversed, the 1996 will provides Pamela Warner with 70 percent of Malcolm's estate, and the remaining 30 percent was split between his father and half-sister. Dr Tenisha Warner's petition asked that Pamela not be allowed to spend or distribute any of her late son's money. The petition even includes an email exchange between Pamela and Tenisha's legal teams.
In the said email, Malcolm-Jamal Warner's mom said it was unfortunate that Tenisha had taken issue with her acting as MacKenzie's rep in court. In the petition, Dr Tenisha Warner has alleged that Pamela Warner had received USD 1.2 million from Malcolm-Jamal Warner's life insurance benefits and retirement accounts. Additionally, she claimed Pamela also sold off the L.A. home she was living in with Malcolm's daughter.
A guardian appointed for the kids filed a separate petition. The docs note Malcolm left behind at least USD 2 million. The guardian said he believed Pamela distributed the money in the trust to the beneficiaries or is about to.
