Madhubala's Biography Writer, Sushila Kumari Sues Actress' Sister, Madhur Bhushan For Rs. 1 Crore

Over the decades, many elite filmmakers, exceptional writers, and the most critical critics agreed on one common thing is late Madhubala is unarguably the greatest actress in the history of Indian cinema. Although there are still some people, who put Waheeda Rehman, Nutan, and many iconic actresses in this debate, but Madhubala is one actress, whose excellence and stardom are too mammoth for an actress to beat.

In a career spanning just two decades, Madhubala still managed to engrave her status as a phenomenon in Indian cinema. However, apart from getting immense success in India, Madhubala's charm and talent also got noticed in Hollywood, as she received a lot of film offers from there. However, she always preferred Hindi cinema over anything else. She was given the titles such as 'The Venus of Indian Cinema' and 'Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood' by the foreign press during her lifetime.

According to a report in ETimes, popular writer and author, Sushila Kumari, who has penned legendary actress, late Madhubala's biography, Madhubala: Dard Ka Safar, sued her sister, Madhur Bhushan, for issuing a notice for running down her book. The doting sister of the iconic actress issued a public notice against Sushila Kumari's biography about her sister. However, now as per the report, Sushila hit back at Madhur by suing her for a whopping sum of Rs. 1 crore. It is also reported that filmmaker, Tutu Sharma was also preparing to make a film on Madhubala's life, which will be based on Sushula's book written about the actress.

In a conversation with ETimes, renowned advocate, Lavin Hirani, who is representing Sushila Kumari's case in court, also shed some light on why his client sued Madhubala's sister, Madhur Bhushan. The advocate refuted the claims made by Madhur that the things mentioned in his client's book about late Dilip Kumar's affair with Madhubala are exaggerated. In his client's defence, Lavin clearly stated that the things written in the book about Madhubala and Dilip Kumar are exactly the same things that have been available in the public domain since the 1960s. Reflecting more about the same, he said:

"While it's too early to comment on the outcome of the dispute, the claims being made my clients is that the book and the subsequent film being produced are based on facts and information that are in the public domain since as early as the 1960s which remain unchallenged till date."

Moving further in his conversation with ETimes, Lavin Hirani also stated that the complaint registered by Madhubala's sister Madhur Bhushan holds no concrete grounds. Explaining why Madhur's claims were completely baseless and if those points would've been taken into consideration by everyone, then we wouldn't have seen all the biopics that have been made across the world. Stressing on the same, he said:

"Even otherwise no one can claim exclusivity let alone ownership to develop/produce any books, scripts, films based on such widely known facts and information in relation to the deceased personality. This is not just limited to India. Had that been so, we wouldn't have seen the release of numerous books/films including biopics based on several famous sports heroes, artists and politicians across the world."

As of now, no comment has been made by Madhur Bhushan in response to Sushila Kumari's lawsuit against her.
