After earning a degree in electronics, Madhavan had started conducting communication and public speaking classes all over India. During one of his workshops in 1991 in Kohlapur, he had met his soulmate, Sarita Birje. And after dating for eight long years, the two had gotten married in a traditional South Indian wedding. In 2005, the couple had embraced parenthood and had welcomed their baby boy, Vedaant.
On October 15, 2020, Sarita Birje turned a year older and her hubby, Madhavan shared the sweetest message for her. He took to his IG handle and shared a beautiful picture of Sarita with an adorable note, which can be read as “To the most caring, dynamic, determined loving and strong woman I know.. and THANKFULLY she is also the love of my life Happy birthday my Love. Last year on Sarita’s birthday, Madhavan shared an adorable wish for her. He had taken to his Instagram handle and had posted a picture with her and had written, "I just hope to keep you smiling even brighter for the rest of your life my Love. Wish you a long happy healthy and wonderful life for all our sake too. ha ha ha cause we so shamelessly lean so hard on you. We are blessed. Happiest birthday Sarita." On June 6, 2020, Madhavan and Sarita had completed 21 years of marital bliss and the actor had penned a heartwarming note for his doting wife. He had taken to his Instagram handle and had posted a lovely selfie with Sarita. In the picture, Madhavan had donned a blue coloured t-shirt and had looked dapper like always, while his wife, Sarita had looked beautiful with her alluring smile. Along with this picture, Madhavan had written, “When everything I want to think and say about how fortunate I am to have you as my soulmate, is inadequate Sarita. Happy Anniversary my LOVE. I can’t thank god enough.”
Coming back to their love story, in an interview with the IANS, Madhavan had shared how he had met his one true love, Sarita. He had said, "Sarita (my wife) was my student and she asked me out on a date one day. I was a dark man and thought it was an opportunity. Didn't know if I would ever get married so I grabbed on to the opportunity and married her."
In an industry, where getting attracted to the opposite sex and indulging in extramarital affairs are quite common, Madhavan’s name was never linked with any other woman and he had always stayed true to his wife. In an interview with The Times of India, he had revealed the reason behind it and had said, "I think it’s the easy way out to remain loyal. There are other aspects of my life that I need to put my energies in. Also, I think to be loyal is a family trait. My entire family till the end of their lives remained so loyal to Jamsetji Tata that we actually had a photo of his, along with all the Gods with the mala.
