Convicted killer Mackenzie "Kenzie" Shirilla's 2022 murder case has reignited debate online after resurfaced videos and recordings revealed a heated argument between her and her boyfriend, Dominic "Dom" Russo, just days before the fatal 2022 crash that killed him and his friend, Davion Flanagan.
The newly circulating audio and videos, highlighted again following Netflix’s The Crash, show an increasingly volatile exchange between the then-17-year-old Shirilla and Dominic, with prosecutors previously arguing the relationship had become deeply toxic in the months leading up to the deadly collision.
One of the resurfaced videos, seemingly captured on Mackenzie's mobile phone just three days before the crash, features the teen confronting Dominic outside his home after he refused to let her inside or invite her to dinner. In the audio, Dominic can reportedly be heard telling her, "Why would I just let you in my house if you broke up with me?" as he accused her of threatening to damage his property. Mackenzie can be heard saying, "I will key your car if you do not let me in the house."
As the argument escalated, Dominic repeatedly urged her to calm down while refusing to open the door. But Mackenzie continued issuing warnings. At one point during the exchange, she threatened, "You’re going to come open this door right now, or there’s going to be a serious problem." Again, some time later, she can be heard saying:
"I’m going to count to 10. The door is going to open. Okay? You're going to open the door and stop hiding behind the door like a little [---]... Ready? One, two, three."
Dominic insisted, “Kenzie, I can’t open the door.” He also kept telling her to stop and calm down, saying, "You can’t keep making all these threats", after she allegedly threatened to "break the glass" and vandalise his property. The tense exchange continued with Mackenzie reportedly warning, “I’m just going to break the handle off,” before later adding, “I’m going to give you one last second, or I’m going to have to key your car.” Dominic eventually appeared overwhelmed by the confrontation, saying:
"Dude, what? No. What the actual f--ck!... This is not your house. All right. I'm calling my mom. I'm calling my mom... This is my house... No, Kenzie. I'm calling my mom. Goodbye."

The video, allegedly taken three days before the fatal crash, was reportedly presented to the court during Shirilla's 2023 murder trial. Even though their faces could not be seen, their heated exchange pointed towards a dysfunctional relationship, with the teen seemingly being unable to handle rejection from Dom. Prosecutors claimed the fatal crash was not an accident but an intentional act fueled by the couple’s deteriorating relationship.

Court documents showed that Dominic had reportedly attempted to break up with Mackenzie multiple times in the months before the crash. His older brother, Angelo Russo, later told investigators that Dom often had to call Mackenzie's parents to calm situations down. In footage later featured in The Crash documentary, Angelo told police:
"Dom tried to break up with her multiple times. Dom would have to call Kenzie's parents, call her mom and stuff, and say, ‘Hey, you need to get Kenzie out of here. She's refusing to leave my house; she's being crazy.' "
Prosecutors also cited other alleged threats involving cars and crashes. In one earlier argument, a witness claimed that Mackenzie kept shouting, "I’m going to wreck this car right now," while Dominic was inside the vehicle. Some reports also claim that Mackenzie had taken her car down the same road where the crash happened three days before the fatal day, which now matches the timeline of her break-in incident at Dom's house.

On July 31, 2022, Mackenzie Shirilla drove her Toyota Camry into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio, at nearly 100 mph. Dominic Russo, 20, and Davion Flanagan, 19, died instantly. Shirilla survived with injuries. Prosecutors argued she deliberately crashed the car after becoming emotionally unstable over the relationship. The judge ultimately convicted her on multiple murder charges and sentenced her to 15 years to life in prison.

Despite the conviction, Mackenzie and her mother keep insisting that she is innocent. What are your thoughts on her recorded exchange at Dominic's house?
