Netflix's recently released true-crime documentary, The Crash has dredged up a sensational case. The story follows the highly-publicised Ohio criminal case of Mackenzie Shirilla, a 17-year-old (now 21) who was convicted of dual murder. She intentionally slammed her car into a brick building at 100 mph, killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo and his friend, Davion Flanagan. The documentary features Mackenzie's first interview since being put behind bars. Recently, details of her whereabouts after the crash until she was jailed surfaced, raising eyebrows.
Following the dreadful July 31, 2022 car crash that took away two lives, Mackenzie Shirilla was admitted to hospital for injuries around her neck and other parts. At that time, she was still active on social media and even made some questionable updates. She and her mother, Natalie Shirilla actively sought influencer and modeling work just days after the incident. At that time, a fashion company reached out to The Crash subject on Instagram regarding a potential collaboration. Normally, she would have been grief-stricken over her boyfriend and his friend's deaths and not in any state to accept the offer.

However, instead of declining or ignoring it, Mackenzie and her mom, Natalie aggressively pursued the opportunity. The former replied to the company to secure the content sponsorship, sharing that she had been trying to reach out to the company for quite some time and was glad to have received an offer. Her mother also responded to another brand collaboration deal, stating the same, i.e., her daughter was looking to work with them for a long time. Replying to one of the brand deals, Mackenzie wrote:
"Thank you for the comment, I would love to work with you guys, I've been emailing you guys a lot!! Such a great opportunity thank you."

Mackenzie Shirilla was on social media a lot after the crash. She even posted a video of herself in a hospital gown and wearing a neck brace the day she was discharged from the hospital. She vlogged herself being wheeled out of the building, with a flower tucked behind her ear. She occasionally smiled, looking unaffected by the deaths of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, confusing the public as to how she returned to her normal life just days after committing dual murders. Additionally, just three months after the crash, she posted a TikTok video showing herself and her friends in Halloween costumes, with makeup resembling that of corpses.

Davion Flanagan's adoptive father, Scott Flanagan was heartbroken after the death of his son, just like any other parent. While browsing social media, the bereaved dad came across Mackenzie Shirilla's replies to comments about brand collaborations, which infuriated him. As information about Mackenzie's social media activities became public, it sparked massive public outrage. The prosecution also used the point to prove Mackenzie's shocking lack of remorse. As for Scott Flanagan, he strongly criticised the post-crash social media behaviour, describing it as "tone deaf." He said:

"She just doesn't get how much anguish she's caused. No one in their right mind would post about being thrilled about this opportunity after they'd just killed two people in a horrific accident...Dressing up as corpses three months after she killed two people, it just sickened us to the very core."
Besides Davion, Dominic Russo's elder sister, Christine also shared her hatred towards Mackenzie. She felt his late brother's ex-girlfriend had no ounce of remorse. The reason was Mackenzie's repeated appeals in court rather than accepting the punishment and paying for her sins. Dominic's sister slammed The Crash's subject by labelling her a "sociopath" and "psychopath", who is "rotten to the core."
