It was in 2007 when Lionel Messi, in a photoshoot, was seen hugging Lamine Yamal. 19 years later, Yamal faced him on the football court, defeated him, and the match was between two generational stars. Lamine had also given Messi a hug after the match. Now, a while back, Messi took to his social media handle to express his pain at Argentina team losing the match. His translated note read:

"The pain is immense, and it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also choose to hold on to all the good things … the matches we played, giving everything we had, will stay in our memories forever. With the support of an entire country, together with the hard work and effort of this group, we once again managed to be among the best teams in the world. Today it's difficult to fully appreciate what we achieved, but this team reached two consecutive World Cup finals."

Lionel Messi thanked his fans from the bottom of his heart for every greeting and every message. Once again they came together as a country, united by immense pride of being Argentine. Messi even congratulated Spain on winning the championship.

Lionel Messi's fans call him the pride of the nation

Lionel Messi has been one of the legendary footballers of the world. According to reports, the FIFA 2026 World Cup may have been his last match at the tournament, as he may retire. However, he has not made any official statement on the same. A fan seeing Messi's sad note after losing to Spain wrote, "You are the pride of the whole country. Eternally thank you."

Another fan wrote, "Hold your head up high. Getting into another World Cup final was amazing. It wasn't meant to be this time, but Argentina showed fight and determination throughout this tournament. You gave it your all, so thank you, Leo. Thank you for everything you gave us and will continue to give, idol. We're going to be with you all our lives."

A third fan penned, "You gave it your all. That grit and determination is unmatched. Inspiring an entire generation ain’t easy! Forever grateful. We love you 10. We always love you... since the day you debuted, when you made us play a final in 2014 after so much time and when you lost the 2 with Chile and decided to take some time."

The emotional fan continued, "We cried with you and like you that day, but if that was your decision, with pain we also decided so. Because your happiness was always ours, your sadness too, because we chose it like that. You made us very happy, Leo, and as our parents told us about Maradona, the match with England and that we were champions of the world, our children and we are going to tell you about you."

Argentina and Spain had a tough game. When the next World Cup takes place, Messi will be 43. His fans wrote in the comments to relax, as a user said, "Rest easy captain, you deserve it. We bank you alone in the 'bad' (they killed you for taking us to all the finals and I don't know). Look, if we're not going to bank you now? Thank you for doing so much, L10."
