The jury in the controversial Lindsay Clancy murder trial has now told the judge that they have not been able to reach a unanimous verdict. A dramatic new turn has been seen in the case as Lindsay is accused of killing her three young kids. If the jury finds that Clancy is not criminally responsible, then she could spend the rest of her life in a hospital.

Will Lindsay Clancy spend the rest of her life in the hospital?

Lindsay is currently being treated at Tewksbury Hospital, and she could spend the rest of her life in a hospital if she is not held criminally responsible. Jurors in her trial have informed the judge that they are unable to reach a unanimous decision.

After many days of deliberations, the jurors told Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan that they had been deadlocked. Sullivan directed the jury to return to its deliberations and continue working toward a conclusion. As per NBC, Sullivan stated:

"I know that this was a long trial. I know there were over 80 witnesses, over 300 exhibits. But because of that, I'm going to ask you to go back out, keeping in mind all the instructions that I gave you. To go out and to continue your deliberations at this time."

For the unversed, the Massachusetts mom has been accused of murder after strangling her three young kids. The jury may consider charges amounting to first-degree murder, second-degree murder, or even manslaughter. The prosecutors have argued that Clancy had acted rationally, intentionally, and also swiftly. The defense has argued that Clancy should not be held criminally responsible as she has postpartum psychosis.

For the unversed, under Massachusetts law, the judge has the right to send the jury back to deliberate. However, this cannot happen more than twice unless the jury agrees to it. If the jurors cannot agree, then the judge can order a mistrial.

As per CBC News, many people have spoken about their own battles with postpartum struggles on social media. There have been posts such as "I am Lindsay Clancy," while others have written "Same Lindsay". A comment, according to the publication, also reads:

"No matter what we say, nothing useful happens. Many of us lie, fearful of having our kids taken. Those of us who tell the truth are usually met with some combination of stigma, dismissal, and blame- rarely any meaningful support. This Lindsay Clancy trial has hit me so viscerally, and it's so close to home."

A report by CNN News also stated that the jurors involved in the Clancy case had been "hyper-focused", but they are now fatigued after many days of deliberations. They have been deconstructing, then reconstructing, and rebuilding their own theory. A report by CNN News stated:

"They didn’t even ask any further questions. They didn’t ask about the verdict form. They didn’t ask about the instructions. So that’s telling me they’re really working hard rebuilding this case. They are hyper-focused. They’ve removed the noise around them. They’re focused on … the judge’s instructions. They trust him, and they’re fatigued."

There is a huge weight on the shoulders of Lindsay's jury. They need to make very important decisions. The jurors have spent more than 17 hours deliberating over the case, and they are really working hard to rebuild it. The publication also reported that:

"This jury, in this case, is going to be highly conflicted, because you’re going to have the Hatfields and you’re going to have the McCoys, and somehow they have to bring that together in order to come and render a unanimous."
