Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleLindsay Clancy's murder trial has been going on, and every passing day, some new information is emerging. For the unversed, Lindsay, a 36-year-old woman from Massachusetts, has been charged with the murders of her three kids. She pleaded not guilty to the murders by reason of insanity. Lindsay's defence team didn't deny the fact that she killed her three kids; however, they continued to mention how the 36-year-old, who was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, ended up doing something that she herself can't even believe.
Lindsay was married to Patrick and was a mom to three kids, Cora, Dawson, and Callan. Reportedly, it was after the birth of her youngest kid that her health condition started deteriorating, and she had been seeking continuous help for it. Lindsay allegedly strangled her kids to death and then tried to take her own life by jumping from the second-storey window, which left her paralysed from the waist down. She was then saved by her now ex-husband, Patrick, who later discovered his three kids in the basement of their home, left strangled with resistance bands.
Lindsay Clancy was under 'command hallucination' on the day she killed her three kids
On Friday (August 21, 2026), during the trial, forensic psychiatrist Dr Phillip Resnick testified. Dr Phillip testified in Andrea Yates' case after she killed her five children in Texas in 2001. Apart from that, he has also been involved in 80 cases where parents killed their own children. Speaking about Lindsay, Dr Phillip revealed that he had reviewed one of her psychological tests and found there was "no evidence of faking psychiatric symptoms."
In Dr Phillip's opinion, Clancy was suffering severe depression, mild mania, and bipolar disorder as the date of the murders approached. According to him, Lindsay was 'psychotic' the day she killed her children and was under 'command hallucination', which is a kind of a dream state, where a person doesn't have control over his/her body.

According to Dr Phillip, Lindsay was obsessed with caring for her kids and continued thinking that she was doing her kids a favour by sending them to heaven. To quote Dr Phillip:
"Not only did she hear a command, but she felt that her body was taken over by an external force where she was in a dream state and did not have control of her own body. It was almost like she was a puppet and someone else was pulling the strings. She was obsessional about caring for her children. She believed that she would be doing her children a favour by having them go to heaven with her rather than remain on Earth without her doing the mothering. Her mind was very distorted like that."
Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague highlighted the difference between Yates and Clancy's case. In the 2001 case, Andrea Yates was hospitalised four times for severe psychiatric illnesses and postpartum psychosis prior to killing her kids and tried to kill herself twice after hearing voices. The prosecutor questioned whether it was appropriate for Clancy to act immediately in that scenario. To this, Dr Philip shared his opinion and revealed that Clancy resisted 'until the command hallucination when she was overwhelmed.'
Lindsay Clancy told her kids, 'Go to God' while strangling them
Another forensic psychiatrist, Dr Avram Mack, testified on Friday. Avram interviewed Clancy in April of this year, and in court he revealed that the mom of three shared feeling 'miserable' and stated that she had no will to live. According to Avram, Clancy probably suffered a depressive episode and anxiety, but he didn't feel that there was any sign of her being bipolar in a manic state, something that her defence team argued.

Avram shared that Clancy revealed to him that on the day of the murder, she heard a loud male voice in the afternoon, which warned her that it was her last chance. Clancy heard that voice saying, 'You should kill the kids; this is your last chance, so that you can kill yourself'. While strangling her kids, Clancy told them loudly, 'Go to God'. Avram, sharing the same in court, revealed:
"She described that while that was happening, she was saying out loud, 'go to God.' My opinion is that she retained the capacity required for having criminal responsibly for these actions."
What do you think about the claims about the possibility of Lindsay Clancy being in 'command hallucination' while strangling her kids?
