Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has arrived in theatres on April 17, 2026. It is a new take on a concept that originally started back in 1932. While the basic premise of those films focused on a group of people aiming to stop a mummified being from unleashing its terror on the whole world, Lee Cronin has added more supernatural and horror elements in his version. Natalie Grace plays the lead role along with Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, and many others.
Following the success of Evil Dead Rise in 2023, expectations for The Mummy have been sky-high. The initial glimpses hinted at a similar experience. The main storyline focuses on a family that loses one of its members in the desert. Eight years later, the lost member is found. But she has also brought a curse with her, which is expected to have its own consequences. Keep reading to know what happens at the end of the film! (Spoilers ahead)

The mysterious disappearance of 'Katie' is the main focus of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. 'Katie’s' behaviour in the trailer has undoubtedly raised a lot of questions about what exactly happened to her. 'Katie' is found inside a sarcophagus eight years after she disappeared, and she returns home with her parents, 'Charlie' and 'Larissa.' Viewers are informed initially about what happens with 'Katie,' who is abducted by a woman named 'Magician,' and she has been looking over the sarcophagus with her family for many years.

Certain other things, including footage that was recorded during the kidnapping and a testimony from Katie’s friend, 'Layla,' reveal more details. Notably, 'Layla' also turns out to be the daughter of the 'Magician.' 'Katie’s' body has been taken over by 'Nasmaranian,' an ancient evil that became a mystery with time despite being mentioned in many stories.

While 'Nasmaranian' became unknown at one point, the 'Magician’s' family was the reason behind it. It is revealed that a ritual was done years ago, aiming to keep the evil confined inside a living body, which was covered with strips of cloth featuring spells to prevent the creature from coming out. The body was then buried in a sarcophagus kept in a pyramid, which is now the house of the 'Magician.' A duty was given to the eldest child of each generation, who had to protect the sarcophagus. The only rule that had to be followed was the repetition of the ritual if the body displayed signs of failure.

Notably, the 'Nasmaranian' was inside a rotting mummy. However, it managed to enter 'Katie’s' body through a black liquid coming out from the mouth of the decayed mummy. All of this happened due to a chanted spell. While 'Katie' was supposed to be inside the sarcophagus, keeping the evil safe inside, the situation changed when the Egyptian government decided to submerge the valley where the 'Magician’s' farm was located. The family opted to move the sarcophagus. This was followed by a plane crash that led to the death of 'Layla’s' brothers, and 'Katie' was eventually found.

'Katie’s' parents are initially informed that her extreme distress is leading to situations of self-injury. The doctors have also decided to sedate her for most of the time. A few sequences feature 'Charlie' finding his daughter attacking herself. Moreover, 'Katie' becomes fast when the sedative stops working at one point. But 'Katie’s' condition also helps to find more about the mystery behind her disappearance, specifically in a moment where 'Larissa' is trimming 'Katie’s' toenails and unintentionally tears a portion of the skin.
However, 'Charlie' finds that the removed skin had a few pieces of the cloth that was used on 'Katie' when she was buried. The cloth also has some writings which help to find what is happening with 'Katie,' including the fact that the ritual can bring certain changes into the body of the person who has been possessed by the 'Nasmaranian.' 'Katie’s' self-injury is a part of getting rid of the spell bindings that are impacting the evil in some manner.

The final moments of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy feature 'Katie' appearing in her most powerful form, including the fact that she has telepathic powers that impact 'Sebastian' and 'Maud.' 'Sebastian' hits his head in a room, and 'Maud' curses at her teacher in school, alongside attacking an individual. 'Detective Dalia Zaki' received a Morse code from 'Charlie,' which says that 'Katie' is still alive, and it also points towards 'Layla.' 'Zaki' speaks to Layla after firing at the 'Magician,' who dies. 'Layla' reveals the truth behind 'Katie’s' behaviour, including the plane crash and other details.

After 'Zaki' reveals the past to 'Charlie' and 'Larissa,' the latter’s mother, 'Carmen,' wakes up alive. Notably, in an earlier sequence, 'Katie' is seen feeding on 'Carmen’s' body. This leads to chaos where 'Carmen' and 'Zaki' fight with each other, along with 'Sebastian,' aiming to hit 'Larissa' with a baseball bat. While 'Charlie' is being stopped by 'Katie,' 'Zaki' rushes to help 'Charlie' despite being injured. 'Charlie' tells 'Zaki' to recite a spell that will let the evil possess him. 'Zaki' follows 'Charlie’s' instructions, and the demon takes over 'Charlie.'
'Charlie' goes missing in the final moments of the film. 'Katie,' who has a lot of scars throughout her body, meets her father in the basement, which has a spell all around, preventing the demon from leaving. The duo speaks to each other through Morse code. The 'Magician' is revealed to be alive, and 'Larissa' meets her in prison. 'Larissa' had already called 'Zaki' before the meeting, and the former used a syringe on the 'Magician,' who is unable to move now. 'Zaki' and 'Larissa' then lock the cell and use a spell to put the demon inside the 'Magician.'
