Lata Mangeshkar is undoubtedly the pride of India. Her death on February 6, 2022, due to multiple-organ failure had left the nation mourning. The 92-year-old singer was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in January 2022. With time, her condition had deteriorated and she was put on a ventilator before she had breathed her last. While she had never married in her life, she used to apply sindoor at times, and here is for whom Lata tai wore vermilion.
Lata Mangeshkar was the first Indian to perform at Royal Albert Hall, London. She had recorded songs in 36 Indian languages and was bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. The 'Nightingale of India', Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honour at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. There's no doubt that the songs sung by Lata tai will always remain in our hearts and minds.
Earlier, in a conversation with Aaj Tak, renowned artist, Tabassum had recalled her conversation with Lata Mangeshkar on why she used to apply sindoor sometimes. Tabassum had shared that once she had asked Lata tai that she is unmarried, and does not even impose Mrs to her name. To which, Lata had replied, “Yes, I am a virgin Lata Mangeshkar.” Tabassum had further enquired that for whom does Lata tai applied sindoor then, in whose name is it. To this, Lata had replied that the name for which she applied sindoor was music.
In a 2013 interview with the Hindustan Times, Lata Mangeshkar had opened up on the role of marriage, love, and children in her life. When she was asked about the lucky man to whom she had given her heart. Lata had beautifully stated that some matters are only for the heart to know. She had said:
"There are some things only for the heart to know. Let me keep it that way."
According to a report on Patrika.com, there are two prime reasons behind the late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar's decision to not marry anyone in her life. The first one is a well-known fact that right from an early age, she had taken care of her siblings, Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridayanath. From taking care of their education to helping them achieve a certain degree of stability in their respective careers, Lata never thought of stealing some time from her commitment towards her siblings.
As per the same report in Patrika.com, the late cricketer and former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Raj Singh Dungarpur, was a close friend of Lata's brother, Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Raj Singh had developed a friendly bond with his good friend's eldest sister, Lata Mangeshkar. The two had started feeling something for each other, and with time, they had fallen in love with each other. It is also reported that Raj Singh used to call Lata Mangeshkar by the name 'Mithoo'.
The report had further stated that both Lata Mangeshkar and Raj Singh Dungarpur were planning to get married, but when the latter had informed his parents about the same, his father, Maharawal Lakshman Singhji, had rejected their idea of getting married. The reason behind it was the fact that Lata wasn't from a royal family. Hence, Maharawal Lakshman couldn't let his son, Raj Singh, marry a common girl. Raj Singh had decided to accept his father's decision.
Lata Mangeshkar will always live in the hearts of her millions of fans!
