Former Miss Universe, Lara Dutta is the perfect example of beauty with brains. After winning the coveted title, Lara ventured into films and made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with the film, Andaaz, opposite Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. She was later seen in blockbuster hits like Masti, No Entry, Bhagam Bhag, Partner, Housefull, Don 2, and many more.
Born on April 16, 1978, in Uttar Pradesh, to a Punjabi father and an Anglo-Indian mother, Lara did her schooling in Bangalore and graduated from the University of Mumbai. Lara is married to Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupati, and the couple is proud parents to a daughter. Before Lara got married, she was in a serious relationship with model, Kelly Dorji. Lara Dutta met Kelly Dorji during their modelling days. Kelly was a Bhutanese Mumbai-based model, who was already a Gladrags winner, while Lara was trying to make a career in the glamour world. They soon became friends and love eventually bloomed.
Lara and Kelly dated each other for nine long years and were quite open about their relationship. Head over heels in love with one another, Lara and Kelly made social appearances together and their chemistry was quite visible.
Problems between Lara and Kely began after she was crowned Miss Universe and began travelling the world. Distance between them started hampering their relationship as well. Besides this, she was linked with many celebs and golfers; Tiger Woods was one of them. In a throwback interview, Lara rubbished the rumours and said:
“I don’t deny knowing Tiger Woods but sorry to disappoint you, there was no affair. In that one year, I spent only 20 days in New York; I had no time for myself. So how could I have even found five minutes for an affair?”
In 2003, Kelly opened a modelling school, and Lara became his partner. However, with time, the tension between Lara and Kelly started mounting. In an interview with a leading magazine, Lara talked about her relationship with Kelly and said:
“He (Kelly) is one of the most stable and secure men you could ever get. People tell me that any boyfriend of mine would die a thousand deaths every minute because of the kind of lifestyle I lead.”

As Lara’s popularity grew, tension between the actress and Kelly widened. Another reason for the rift was that Kelly wasn’t as successful in the glamour industry as Lara. Though he tried his hand at acting, things didn’t work out for him.
Lara Dutta, Kelly Dorji, and Dino Morea were good friends from their modelling days and would often hang out together. At some point, rumour mills had it that Lara and Dino were getting closer to one another, and it was reportedly one of the major reasons for Kelly and Lara’s breakup. In 2007, Lara and Kelly ended their nine-year-long relationship.
When the news about Lara and Dino’s relationship hit the headlines, Kelly opened up about the same in an interview with a leading magazine. Stating how he felt wronged and blamed Dino for it. Speaking up about the same, Kelly said:
“He was my best friend; not any more. I still haven't accepted this entirely. My words just don't flow smoothly because I feel wronged...So now, I don't judge anybody. But Dino lied to me. Dino never had the guts to come and tell me. In fact, he spent so much time with me hiding it. He hasn't told me till now. She had to come and tell me because he didn't. One has to be a man and stand up for what you do."

After her breakup with Kelly, Lara was frequently spotted with Dino Morea, which led to rumours that the two were dating each other. Though they never accepted their relationship and always kept the stance of being ‘good friends’, various reports claimed otherwise. Everything was going smoothly between Lara and Dino when his ex-girlfriend, Nandita Mahtani, came into the picture. Nandita would openly flirt with Dino, and he, too, never asked her to stop. This made Lara furious and things got complicated in Lara and Dino’s relationship, which ultimately led to their alleged breakup.
Lara and Mahesh first met at a business meeting for some work in his sports company. It is often reported that this meeting was just an excuse for Bhupathi to meet Lara. But, the simplicity of the man attracted Lara in the first meeting itself, and soon they started dating.
However, Lara and Mahesh faced a lot of backlash as he was already married to model Shvetha Jaishankar. In 2009, Mahesh and Shvetha divorced amicably, and Lara was blamed for it. In 2011, Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi got married in a simple civil ceremony and later had a glamorous Church wedding.
