Kyle Busch Once Fell From Stool, Wife, Samantha Revealed He Got 24 Stitches That Saved His Leg

Kyle Busch was one of the toughest drivers ever to drive in NASCAR. It was at age 41, on May 14, 2026 that Kyle passed away. His top-level physical endurance came to light when Kyle once shared that he had sustained a deep cut on his leg a day before the 2026 Cook Out Clash was to take place at the Bowman Grey Stadium. Kyle Busch's wife, Samantha, revealed that he had got 24 stitches all due to a smoke detector going off outside their son, Brexton's, room.

When Kyle Busch narrated how he got 24 stitches when a smoke detector in their house went off

Kyle Busch, on a podcast with Certified Oversharer, revealed that while he was at home, one of the smoke detectors went off. His wife, Samantha had one way to figure out which, which one's beeping. He had gone the other way to figure out which one was beeping, and then he came to the foyer. Kyle Busch then figured out that the smoke detector was right outside his son Brexton’s room, which went off. Kyle Busch then shared that the ceiling was shorter than normal, so he thought he could reach it by standing on a stool. He felt he could reach, so he grabbed a little stool. As Kyle had climbed the stool to reach the detector, it gave away and he had a hard crash. In his words:

"I see this little stool. It's, again, it's a foot and a half tall. It's about 18 inches tall. It's all I need. So I put the stool down, and I get up on the stool. And as I'm reaching up with my second arm, the stool explodes. Like, I go from 18 inches off the floor to just, like, a straight poof down to the ground, and I land on my feet. And I'm holding onto the walls like, I'm good. Everything's fine. I'm all right."

Kyle Busch's son, Brexton, later came out and said to his father that he was bleeding. Kyle looked down and realised that it was not like a nosebleed. His first thought was that he had not suffered any injury. It was pouring, and they quickly rushed him to the hospital. Kyle had got lucky because that night there was a peculiar winter storm in North Carolina, which had delayed the Bowman Grey event. The roads leading to the hospital were empty, and the emergency room was not busy, so he could receive treatment as soon as possible.

Busch had thought that it was a small cut which could be treated at home. When he saw his leg, he realised that the bleeding was profuse and was not stopping with simple first aid. He was in the front seat of the car with his leg propped up on the dashboard with more towels, the garage towels. Kyle shared that the doctor came in and his wife, Samantha, had shared:

"The doctors told him he "barely" missed the muscle in the left leg. When they lifted up his leg, they’re not kidding, like this flap was down and it was like gushing. So the doctor then came in and after they made sure there was no porcelain in your wound, and it missed your muscle by like barely. The cut required 24 stitches."

Kyle Busch's family released a statement stating that the Chevrolet Camaro was hospitalised

Kyle Busch's family, on behalf of the family,  everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, announced the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch. The joint statement was from NASCAR, the Busch family and Richard Childress Racing, and a part of it read:

"Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans."
