The news was confirmed in a joint statement on May 21, 2026, by the Busch family, NASCAR, and Richard Childress Racing. A few hours before his demise, Kyle was hospitalised and undergoing treatment. According to reports, a few days ago, he felt unwell during a race and asked to see a doctor. His deteriorating health forced him to withdraw from the upcoming Coca-Cola 600. Fans were hoping for his speedy recovery; however, things took an unexpected turn, and he passed away.

What happened to Kyle Busch, which caused his sudden death?

Kyle Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, passed away just hours after his family announced that he had been hospitalised with an undisclosed "severe illness". The motorsports world and its fans are in a state of absolute shock, mourning the sudden loss of one of NASCAR's most competitive figures. During Kyle's final racing weeks, he reportedly struggled with a severe sinus cold. He had even radioed his crew during a race at Watkins Glen on May 10, 2026 requesting medical attention and a shot from the track doctor immediately after finishing.

Notably, it is unclear which medicine's shot Kyle was referring to; however, it might be related to sinus. After he expressed health concerns, he was hospitalised, and a statement was released regarding his withdrawal from the Coca-Cola 600. Only a few hours after that, the tragic news confirming that the racing legend had passed away was released. Notably, the specific cause of Kyle Busch's sudden demise has not yet been officially released; however, reports regarding his last few days point to health complications due to sinus issues.

Kyle Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha Busch, their two children, Brexton and Lennix, his brother, Kurt, and his parents. The NASCAR star's better half, Samantha (maiden surname, Sarcinella) is an author, lifestyle blogger, and entrepreneur. The couple met at a racing event in 2007 and, after dating for about three years, married on New Year's Eve in 2010. After facing an almost-divorce situation due to infertility, the couple co-founded the Bundle of Joy Fund to help families fighting the same medical issue. Kyle and Samantha's first child, a son, Brexton Locke Busch was born on May 18, 2015, and seven years later, his younger sister, Lennix Key Busch was born on May 10, 2022 via surrogacy.
