Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been married for more than ten years
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard met in 2007 at a mutual friend’s dinner party, and then crossed paths again two weeks later at a Detroit Red Wings game. The start was not smooth. Shepard later said he was initially suspicious of Bell and her friends’ happiness. They dated off and on for about two years.
Early on, Shepard told Bell he was still seeing other people, which led to a brief breakup that lasted four days before they got back together. Shepard has spoken publicly about his initial hesitation. In 2019, he explained on Off Camera With Sam Jones that he questioned whether he wanted a relationship with someone whose values and lifestyle were very different from his own at the time.
Over time, he said he watched how Bell moved through life and liked the results he saw, so he chose to move more in her direction. Bell has said she believed in second chances from the beginning and felt he had goodness in him, which she said was proven right over the years.
Shepard proposed during the holidays in 2009, and they got married on October 17, 2013, at the Beverly Hills Courthouse. Bell later called it one of the best days of her life despite the small setting. They have two daughters: Lincoln, born in 2013, and Delta, born in 2014.
The couple often discusses parenting and marriage openly. In 2023, Bell told ET that shared goals and deep respect help keep their marriage strong. She also described how they try to understand each other’s triggers by remembering that each person was once a child. In October 2025, Bell posted about 12 years of marriage and shared one of Shepard’s early remarks to her, which says:
“I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivised to kill you, I never would.”

Dax Shepard is an American actor, filmmaker, and podcast host born in 1975. He got his start on MTV’s Punk’d and later co-created, wrote, directed, and starred in the 2012 film CHIPS. He has even gained recognition for playing 'Crosby Braverman' on NBC’s Parenthood for six seasons.
Behind the camera, he has also directed and written other films. He started hosting Armchair Expert in 2018. It is a long-form interview podcast where he talks with actors, experts, and public figures about mental health, addiction, and personal growth. He has spoken publicly about sobriety and recovery, and often uses the platform to discuss those topics.
