'Pavane' Ending Explained, Why Are 'Gyeong Rok' And 'Mi Jeong' Not Able To Reunite In Korean Film?

Korean fans are in for a treat! Romantic movie, Pavane, starring Moon Sang-min, Go Ah-sung and Byun Yo-han has been released on the OTT giant, Netflix. For the unversed, it premiered on February 20, 2026. It is worth mentioning that the Korean film, directed by Lee Jong-pil, has been generating a lot of buzz online. Amid that, read on to know how the romantic movie ends.

The plotline of Pavane

Korean romantic drama, Pavane opens in Seoul, where three different people cross paths at a departmental store. 'Mi-jeong' (played by Go Ah-sung), a private and self-conscious woman, works at the basement of a store and prefers to avoid others as they pass comments about her appearance. On the other hand, 'Gyeong-rok' (played by Moon Sang-min) is a young man, who once wanted to be a dancer but now works part-time at a store. 

Lastly, 'Yo-han' (played by Byun Yo-han) is a young man who works in the parking lot of the store. The film picks up pace when 'Gyeong-rok' sees 'Mi-jeong' in the parking lot and starts wondering about her. Eventually, he takes the help of 'Yo-han's' extrovert nature and tries to find out about her. Slowly and gradually, 'Gyeong-rok' and 'Mi-jeong' start liking each other's company, which eventually turns into romance. Later, 'Yo-han', 'Gyeong-rok' and 'Mi-jeong' became friends.

Do 'Gyeong-rok' and 'Mi-jeong' part ways forever?

As 'Gyeong-rok's' feelings deepen about 'Mi-jeong', he starts to fulfil his abandoned dream of becoming a dancer. As the film moves forward, 'Gyeong-rok' enrolls in a dancing university. Initially, this decision brings him closer to 'Mi-jeong'; however, they soon start to drift apart when 'Gyeong-rok' gets fully-involved in his studies and practices. While they are facing a rough patch in their relationship, 'Yo-han' is living a terrible life, as he is unable to get over his childhood trauma. 

When 'Gyeong-rok' gets busy in life and drifts away with 'Yo-han', the latter's loneliness increases and he attempts su***de and falls into a coma. This incident brings all the three friends under the same roof; however, the difference between them only deepens. Later, when 'Yo-han' is recovering, 'Gyeong-rok' tries to reunite with 'Mi-jeong', by showing her the university, introducing her to his new friends and more. One day, 'Gyeong-rok' asks 'Mi-jeong' to have ramen with her. It is worth mentioning this question holds a significant value in Korean culture. However, 'Mi-jeong' feels awkward and rejects it.

'Mi-jeong' then shifts to another city, without saying a proper goodbye to 'Gyeong-rok'. When 'Gyeong-rok' goes to her place, he finds a letter and finds out about 'Mi-jeong'. This leaves him heartbroken and he decides to take a break from his university and returns to the departmental store, in the hope to see 'Mi-jeong' one day. During the next few days, an employee notices 'Gyeong-rok' and decides to help him. Eventually, he finds out about the city.

As the film moves forwards, 'Gyeong-rok' and 'Mi-jeong' collide in a cafe and share a small and romantic dance. However, they part ways. Later, when 'Gyeong-rok' is about to catch a bus, he realises his true feelings and rushes back to 'Mi-jeong', where he confesses his emotions. Before leaving, they fix a date and plan to meet. 

On the day of the meeting, 'Mi-jeong' keeps waiting as 'Gyeong-rok' never arrives. Later, it is revealed that while he was coming to meet her, his bus went through an accident and he died. The Korean film, then forwards to present time, where 'Yo-han' recovers and has written a novel. His novel is based on the life of three friends and the love story of 'Gyeong-rok' and 'Mi-jeong'. However, in the novel, 'Gyeong-rok' survives and reunites with his ladylove. The movie ends on a hopeful note because of the novel.
