Kiefer Sutherland is currently leading the headlines after he was arrested for his involvement in the assault of a ride-share driver. The Emmy-winning actor was arrested in Los Angeles after he reportedly had an altercation with a ride-share driver. As per multiple reports, the actor was released from jail on a USD 50,000 bond.

On the personal front, Kiefer Sutherland has been married twice. He first tied the knot with Terry Kath’s widow, Camelia Kath, but their marriage ended in three years. He then married Kelly Winn, but the couple separated in 1999 and filed for divorce in 2004. Kiefer and Julia began dating in 1990 after meeting on the set of their horror film, Flatliners. After falling in love, the duo got engaged in August of the same year. After being in love with one another, Kiefer and Julia planned to walk down the aisle on June 14, 1991. But the wedding never took place, as days before the ceremony, Julia called it off and ran away.

There were various reasons quoted for their breakup. But the primary reason Julia cited was that the immense public pressure and overwhelming fame surrounding their relationship disturbed her to the point that she had no other option. There were also rumours that Sutherland’s alleged infidelity with a stripper was another reason, which prompted Julia to take the step.

However, Sutherland once addressed the frenzy surrounding the incident and said:

“But look, the truth, where I’m coming from… you fall in love, you fall in love, there’s nothing you can do about that. She’s an extraordinary person and he is too and timing is what it is and everybody moves on from that.”

After Julia flew away with Patric, there were a lot of stories written about the tension between Sutherland and Patric, who were once best of friends. However, Patric cleared the air and denied sensationalised rumours in a 2011 interview with Vulture. Denying any kind of fallout with Sutherland, Patric revealed:

“All that stuff is made up, if you even go back there to all the archives you’re never gonna see any comment by me — They had a relationship that ended and I was with her for a little while and it ended… But we never had any issue, even back then.”

When Julia Roberts called off the wedding, it was surely a heartbreak for Kiefer Sutherland, who never thought about it. During an appearance on The Jess Cagle Interview, he revealed that he and Julia were madly in love, but their growing fame got in the way of their relationship. Not just this, he also heaped praises on Julia for taking such a brave step.

The actor also highlighted that she could have easily gone through the ceremony, but she chose to be honest with herself. Speaking about the same, he said:

“I think that's much better... This wedding that was supposed to be something between the two of us became something so big. Then, in the middle of that, I think she had the courage ... it wasn't what she wanted to do, in the end I think it took a lot of courage, even amongst all of that other stuff, to be able to say, 'I can't do this.’”
