The accident that killed Kianna Underwood occurred in the early morning of January 16, 2026 (at approximately 6:50 a.m. ET) at the intersection of Watkins Street and Pitkin Avenue in the Brownsville neighbourhood. At that time, Kianna was crossing the street after leaving a bodega when she was struck by a grey sedan, travelling westbound on Pitkin Avenue. The former Nickelodeon child actress was reportedly dragged for nearly two blocks by the vehicle.

Surveillance footage from a nearby laundromat captured Kianna Underwood's body tumbling out from underneath the car as it continued down the block without stopping. The outcome of the accident was extremely tragic. Kianna Underwood sustained severe trauma to her head and torso and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. As the body identification news surfaced, Kianna's fans expressed shock and disbelief at the news, with many taking to social media to share their condolences.

As of January 17, 2026, the perpetrator in the death of Kianna Underwood "did not remain on scene" and has not been caught. The latest update of the incident revealed that the New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating the case as a fatal hit-and-run. According to sources' account to TMZ, the NYPD received a 911 call at around 6:49 a.m. (ET), following which they arrived at the scene and announced Kianna's death. No arrests have been made, and authorities are working to identify the driver and any other individuals in the vehicle, and the perpetrator remains at large.
