Kathy Griffin Comes To Kelly Clarkson's Defense In Brooklyn Store Feud, Labels Owners As 'Petty'
Comedian Kathy Griffin said that she is team Kelly Clarkson in the Brooklyn store feud and called out the business owners for being petty in the way that they handled the controversy.

She recently called out a small Brooklyn-based curiosity shop called Art of Play, which is known for its collection of trinkets, for allegedly giving her the “Pretty Woman treatment.” It all stemmed from when she tried to buy a wooden mechanical bird called the Singing Bird (Molly), which the store allegedly refused to sell.
Kelly claimed that when she tried to buy it, she was looked at as if she couldn't afford its USD 15,000 price tag. This has led to a full-blown public feud between the singer and the store. And now, Kathy Griffin is coming to Kelly’s defense.
Kathy Griffin takes Kelly Clarkson’s side in the Brooklyn store feud
Kathy Griffin is known for her outspoken personality, and this time she didn't hesitate to reveal just whose side she is on in the Brooklyn store feud. During an interview with Page Six, Kathy said that the business was “petty” for the way that they handled the controversy. She said:
“I’m Team Kelly because I just love her. I’ve known her since the night she won ‘American Idol,’ and I think she has become more real since her [talk show] got canceled, more herself.”
It is worth mentioning that since Kelly slammed Art of Play on social media, accusing the employee of treating her badly, the price of the singing bird has soared from USD 15,000 to USD 15 million. Kelly claimed that the staffer was patronizing and had rudely offered her a cheaper alternative. This left the former talk show host so mad that she called him an “idiot” for forfeiting a “huge sale.”
Kelly also said that the whole experience in the Brooklyn store made her feel like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman when ‘Vivian Ward’ was treated badly by a staff member on Rodeo Drive. Kathy Griffin believes that Kelly is telling the truth, as she is not someone who would make up such an outrageous lie and attempt to take down a business.
Kathy said that Kelly is already aware of her massive fan following and she probably made the post after giving it a ton of thought. She even likened Kelly to herself by saying that it was how she posts late at night. In her words:
“I know her well enough to know she is not somebody who would hop online, make up a lie that would be so outrageous it could take down a business…I think Kelly probably made the post without a ton of thought. I doubt she got together with her pr and legal team. She was probably like me, posting late at night, and I believe her because she doubled down.”
For the unversed, after Kelly called out the store on Instagram, they explained that the item the singer wanted was not for sale. They also said that the singing bird named Molly played an important role in the magic shows they host there and that it is permanently attached to the wall.
However, this time Kelly accused them of lying about the situation. She said that she remembered the staffer telling her, “Yes, it's for sale, but it costs USD 15,000, so if you’d like me to find something comparable for you, I can.”
Kathy Griffin believes that instead of lying to the singer, Art of Play should have just offered a normal apology. Doing that would have been enough for the business to have blown up. In her words:
“I actually think they look petty and the store would blow up, business-wise, if they had just said, ‘Oh my god, we’re so embarrassed.’ I think the store could have said, ‘We all have bad days at the office,' and I think whoever she was dealing with personally should have sent her flowers and said, ‘I was having a bad day.'”
