Kartik Aaryan had become a crush of the entire nation when Sara Ali Khan expressed she had a 'huge crush' on him in 2018 when she first graced the Koffee couch. Soon, everyone collectively wished that Sara and Kartik form a connection. However, Sara and Kartik not only connected with each other, but they also dated for a while. When Sara Ali Khan appeared on the chat show, Koffee With Karan 8, Karan asked her whether 'being friends with her ex, Kartik Aaryan, was easy, Sara clearly stated, "It isn’t always easy." Reacting to the same, Kartik shared his opinion with Anupama Chopra of Film Companion. He felt that a relationship involves two people and they should not talk about the same. He was quoted as saying:
"Ek cheez mujhe lagti hai – relationship agar do logo ki hai toh dusre insaan ko bhi woh baatein nehi karni chahiye. Hum sab ko apni relationship ki respect karni chahiye."

Kartik further added he had never spoken about his relationship with anyone. The actor also said that he expects the same from his partner. He shared that when a person is in a relationship, they do not think it will end, and one should always respect the time spent and the moment. He was quoted as saying:
"I expect the same from my [partner]. It’s not good for someone to speak about the relationship. If things don’t work out… par jab aap saath hote ho kisike toh you don’t imagine it to be like that. You don’t imagine ke yeh khatam ho jayega. I think you should respect that time, that moment. I think you should respect yourself also. Aap jab woh baat karte ho toh aisa nahin hai ke samne wala ek hee insaan ke baare mein woh soch raha hota hai, woh dono ke baare mein woh soch raha hota hai."
In 2022, Sara and Kartik made their first appearance together in one frame after their breakup. While Sara looked stunning in a thigh-high slit black gown, Kartik looked dapper in a black suit and tie. However, there was an awkwardness in their body posture as they posed for the cameras. It also looked like they avoided eye contact with each other.

A Reddit user shared an unseen video of Sara and Kartik a while ago. In the clip, the duo was sitting in a golf cart, and it looked like they got into an ugly argument. Soon, Sara stepped out of the car and was seen crying profusely. Fans noticed Sara looked upset, while Kartik didn't try to calm her down.
