Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleIt was in June 2026 when 19-year-old Texas teen Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison after he was found guilty of murdering a fellow athlete, Austin Metcalf.
The horrific incident took place back in 2025. Following the incident, Anthony was arrested, and while he admitted to murdering Austin, he maintained during the trial that he did it in self-defense. According to the reports, Anthony requested a new trial, and during a hearing on August 20, 2026, it was revealed that the then 17-year-old was stalking his ex-girlfriend, and not only this, but also sent her some disturbing texts and images on the morning he committed the crime of killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.
Karmelo Anthony sent his girlfriend some disturbing texts before stabbing Austin Metcalf
According to courtroom coverage from WFAA, FOX 4, and KERA, during the hearing, which took place on August 20, 2026, it was revealed that Anthony's ex-girlfriend told a school administrator that she was being stalked by him. According to the reports, Anthony's ex-girlfriend also alleged that he refused to let her end their relationship.
WFAA reported the same, citing Collin County Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye's comment in court, while also revealing that Karmelo Anthony even sent a disturbing text to his ex-girlfriend the morning he fatally killed Austin Metcalf. According to the reports, Anthony wrote in a text, 'Lowk on the verge...' to his ex, and he even sent her photos of a knife.

WFAA further reported that in another text, the then 17-year-old wrote, 'Imma stab someone and lick the blood off the blade'; however, the exact time when this message was sent has not been disclosed. It was revealed that Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf just two hours after his ex told a school assistant on April 2, 2025, that she feared he wouldn't take 'no' for an answer.
Some background history regarding Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf was withheld
According to WFAA, FOX 4, and KERA, Bill Wirskye argued on Thursday (August 20) that evidence concerning Anthony was withheld under an informal agreement between prosecutors and his trial attorneys. The informal agreement excluded some sensitive background details on both Anthony and Austin Metcalf. Rather, the trial was more focused on the day Austin was killed and what happened beneath the tent beforehand.
Prosecutors had information about Anthony's interest in guns, fighting, and knives, while the defense also had some evidence of Metcalf’s history of fighting and information about Austin being involved in racist and antisemitic graffiti. Additionally, Anthony's new defense team argued that this off-the-record deal violated Anthony's right to a fair trial.

If the reports are to be believed, a confrontation took place between Austin Metcalf and Anthony when the former asked the latter to leave while he was sitting under Memorial High School’s team tent. Following the verbal confrontation, Anthony reportedly warned Austin, saying, 'Touch me and see what happens.' According to the witness, Anthony then reached into his bag, pulled a knife, and stabbed the fellow athlete in the chest, which led to his death in his twin brother's arms.
Anthony didn't deny murdering Austin. Back in June 2026, during the trial, Karmelo admitted that he stabbed Metcalf and mentioned that it happened after the latter put his hands on him, even when he asked him not to touch him. And it led him to act in self-defense.
