Their 2007 split left their shippers heartbroken, who wanted a clear answer on what led to the decision. According to a report by DNA, one of Shahid's close friends claimed Kareena was responsible for the split.
When Shahid announced he was going to marry Mira Rajput, Kareena Kapoor Khan told the media she was happy for her ex-boyfriend's new chapter and would attend his wedding too. Shahid's friend found her comment bizarre and, without naming her, stated that she might have forgotten what she did to her ex. In their words:
"We were really surprised to read one of his very prominent former girlfriends talking about being invited to his wedding. Has she forgotten how she behaved with him?"
The friend then went on to make bombshell accusations against Kareena, saying that she cheated on Shahid, which led the latter to end their relationship for good. According to the source, the Jaane Jaan actress had a "secret fling" with one of her co-stars during an outdoor shoot. When she returned to Mumbai, Shahid allegedly somehow got to know about the affair and broke up with her. The source stated:
"She went on an outdoor shooting with one of her co-stars, had what she thought was a secret fling with her co-star and came back to Mumbai to Shahid as if everything was normal. Shahid got to know about the 'secret fling' and refused to take her back. And now she wants to be invited to the wedding? What a cruel joke!"

During his appearance on Neha Dhupia's chat show, Bollywood's BFFs, Shahid Kapoor was asked if anyone has ever cheated on him. He replied that there might have been two, and he was certain about one but not so sure about the other. Since Shahid's most high-profile relationship was with Kareena, many speculated he was talking about her cheating on him. Shahid's reply regarding the cheating question was:
"I am sure about one, I have major doubts about another one. I cannot name them."
Notably, unverified social media posts and media reports at the time claimed that Kareena's "secret fling" was with her Tashan co-star and now-husband, Saif Ali Khan. The actress reportedly spent a lot of time with Saif during and after the movie's shoot, and when Shahid learned about it, he decided to end their three-year relationship.
