When a couple gets the news of their pregnancy, they excitedly start planning everything for the new member. And the one thing that every expecting parent does is collecting a bunch of names to choose from for their soon-to-be born. Even before knowing whether it is a boy or a girl, the couple makes sure to zero on an adorable name, which always remain close to their hearts. But when the Begum and Nawab of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan had decided on naming their first born, Taimur Ali Khan, an array of controversies had followed. Bollywood’s most sought-after couple, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan had become proud parents of a baby boy on December 20, 2016, whom they have named Taimur Ali Khan. From the day, Taimur was born, he had stormed the internet and had become a social media sensation overnight. But it was his name, that had created a lot of stir on the social media. Soon after the star parents had announced the name of their baby boy, netizens had started questioning the origin of his name as ‘Taimur’ was a historic name of a Persian emperor, who had invaded India in 1398. Recently, the star mommy opened up about a ‘ghastly’ experience she had on the controversy of her son’s name.
In a conversation with journalist, Barkha Dutt, Kareena Kapoor Khan talked about the whole controversy. When the journalist asked her about how she dealt with all the trolling on Taimur's name, Kareena stated, “What happened about his name was just ghastly. It was disgusting and I'll never forget it. It has obviously scarred me deeply as a person, as a mother. What I name my child, what I call him, is completely my discretion and of nobody else's concern.”
Bebo also recounted an incident when a famous personality visited her in the hospital, hours after her delivery and questioned her on naming her son, Taimur. In her own words, “There was a famous personality who had the gall to come there, on the pretext of visiting me and the baby, and in the conversation, say 'what's with you? Why would you name your son Taimur?' It hadn't even been eight hours since I delivered! "I started crying. That person was then asked to leave. My journey with that started then, when I just made up my mind and said, 'this is my son, I don't care what happens, as long as he's healthy, happy, we're happy, that's it. I don't want to know what people were trolling, what was happening.'" The actress further stated that she and Saif named their son, Taimur for its meaning- ‘iron’ and someone who is very strong and not because of some historic character. At an interaction session on India Today Conclave in 2018, Kareena Kapoor Khan had shared that Saif had wanted to name Taimur, Faiz. She had stated how a day before Taimur’s birth, Saif was contemplating on changing the name of the baby. Talking about the same, Kareena had stated, “There was (a) lot of trolling, but there was an immense amount of support as well. Not that the trolls or anything matters. Because the night before (the delivery) when we went to the hospital, Saif asked me, if it's a boy, do I want to change the name from Taimur? He even told me to change the name to 'Faiz', as it is more poetic and romantic.” But Kareena’s reaction was surprising as she had said, “I was like no, 'If it is a boy, my son is going to be a fighter, he will be called 'Taimur'. Taimur means iron, and I will produce (an) ironman.
