Your BFF is someone, you can confide in and can be your craziest self with. However, what happens when your friendship goes on a toss to the extent that you end up becoming strangers? It is said that ending everything with your BFF feels like a breakup and once BFFs, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Esha Deol Takhtani, must have had felt something similar. Yes, there was a time when Kareena and Esha were best friends and here is the tale of everything that went wrong between them.
At a time when the friendship between two actresses was impossible, Kareena Kapoor and Esha Deol had given major friendship goals to the industry. Esha and Kareena had gone to the same school and were close to each other. In fact, Esha was the one, who knew everything about Kareena’s relationship with Shahid Kapoor even before the industry knew about it. There have been many theories around Kareena and Esha’s friendship going wrong.

While some reports state that Kareena Kapoor’s few statements had hurt Esha Deol, making the two maintain distance, some suggest that it was because of Zayed Khan and his sister, Sussanne Khan. In a conversation with the Filmfare, talking about whether she gets enough time to meet her friends because of her busy working schedules, Kareena had called Esha, her close friend. She had said:
"Not too much. But that's okay. I've seen my sister slogging it out from the age of 16. I do go out but my social circle is restricted to four or five close friends like Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra. I'm very fond of Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. I'm comfortable with them. And of course Esha Deol. She's one of my closest friends. I'm already six films old…or young, I treat her like a younger sister. I teach her the do's and don'ts. She's as excitable and temperamental as I am. We like and dislike the same things. We're quite sure our friendship is envied by everyone."
However, gradually the drift between Kareena Kapoor and Esha Deol was quite clear. Later, when Esha had not even invited Kareena and her family personally, the reports of their difference had hit the headlines. Kareena had mentioned that she was busy shooting abroad and thus, had to skip Esha’s wedding. The Times Of India report had quoted Kareena as:
"I'm on an outdoor in Thailand shooting for Heroine and will only be back on July 5 so I am unable to attend Esha's wedding events. Yes but I'm traveling now. I do wish Esha a happy married life always. Esha invited me and my family for the wedding. She told my friend Reenaa and her secretary sent the invite but Saif and I were away. I haven't been home in a month as I have been traveling all over London, Turkey and now Thailand."

On the other hand, on a Reddit thread, a user claiming to be Esha Deol’s sister, Aahana Deol’s colleague mentioned an entirely different narrative, blaming it all on Bollywood actor, Zayed Khan. The user had mentioned that Esha was getting too involved with Zayed, which had irked her mother, Hema Malini, who had asked Kareena Kapoor to intervene and help her daughter. She had mentioned that this had led to a drift between Kareena and Esha. The user had penned:
“Okay, I know this one because Aahana was in my college when this drama was unfolding. So apparently, Esha was getting too involved with Zaid and his crew. Zaid at the time was quite known for his drug habits. Hema didn't like it one bit and asked Kareena to stop Esha and tell her to concentrate on her career. Kareena tried to speak to Esha but Esha was blinded by love and fought with Kareena due to this.”
The user had also added that Zayed Khan’s sister, Sussanne Khan had played a crucial role as she was already pissed with Kareena Kapoor and her husband, Hrithik Roshan’s closeness reports. The statement further added:
“There was also the Suzanne Khan element, she was Zaid's sister and hated Kareena for her Hrithik connection and had influenced Esha too. In the end they had some pretty nasty fights where Kareena said all the coke will ruin Esha's life and Esha didn't waste her time running after some married guy etc. Later on Amrita Arora tried to patch things up between Kareena and Esha, but Esha even was too much involved with Zaid at that point and even fought with Amrita. Amrita defended Kareena and Esha ended up slapping Amrita. That pissed Kareena also off and she cut all ties with Esha. After that incident, even Kareena was really touched by Amrita defending her and they became really close.”
It was in 2019, when Kareena Kapoor Khan's son, Taimur Ali Khan had attended Esha Deol Takhtani's daughter, Radhya Takhtani's birthday, giving hope that things are not that bad between the ex-BFFs.
