The much-anticipated Malayalam crime thriller, Kalamkaval, starring Mammootty, has finally hit the theatres on December 5, 2025. The thriller directed by Jithin K. Jose, also stars Vinayakan, Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Shruti Ramachandran and Rajisha Vijayan. The audience lauded the strong performances after watching the film. It is worth mentioning that Mammootty never fails to win hearts with his versatility, and he has once again proved it with the crime thriller, Kalamkaval. Now that the film has hit the big screen, let’s take a look at the cast's fees.
Mammootty is playing a vicious character in the crime thriller, Kalamkaval. Earlier, during the pre-release event, the veteran actor shared that this time he is portraying the role of an antagonist. He also highlighted that the character he played in the film is hard to love. According to a report by Big TV, Mammootty allegedly took home the highest paycheck of Rs. 8-10 crore. Talking about his character, Mammootty said:
"The hero of this film is Vinayakan, and I am also the hero ... but the villain. The character I play in this film may be very difficult for you to love or like."

During the pre-release event, Mammootty revealed that the role played by Vinayakan was originally offered to him. But it was he who thought that Vinayakan would do greater justice to the character of a police officer. He called Vinayakan the 'hero' of the film. Vinayakan, who played the role of a protagonist in the crime thriller, Kalamkaval, reportedly earned Rs. 2 to Rs. 3 crore. Mammootty was quoted as saying:
"The hero of Kalamkaval is Vinayakan. That’s how it has been shown on the poster."

According to a report by Big TV, Rajisha Vijayan allegedly earned Rs. 1 to Rs. 1.5 crore for her role. Gayatri reportedly earned Rs. 40 to Rs. 75 lakh. The supporting cast, Gibin Gopinath and Azees Nedumangad, reportedly took home a similar amount of nearly Rs. 20 to Rs. 40 lakh.

The story of Mammootty’s film, Kalamkaval, is set in the era of the 2000s and features 'Officer Jayakrishnan', who is in charge of an investigation related to a communal riot case. However, soon the case took a drastic turn and got darker as 'Jayakrishnan' discovered a series of cases surrounding missing women. At the initial level, it was a communal riot case involving an eloping couple, but deep down, there remains a serial killer whose target is women.

Ever since the audience watched the teaser of the thriller, Kalamkaval, rumours are rife that the film is based on a true story of serial killer, Mohan Kumar, widely known as Cyanide Mohan. He used to target unmarried women who belonged to economically weak families. He had committed the crimes between 2004 and 2009. Later, on October 21, 2009, he was arrested on murder charges. Now comes the biggest question: Is Kalamkaval based on the story of Cyanide Mohan? Veteran actor, Mammootty, who played the dangerous villain in the film himself, cleared the air. In an interview with actor-screenwriter, Santhi Mayadevi, Mammootty shared that there is no direct connection between the film and the true story. He mentioned that the thriller is based on one such person who committed some serious crimes involving cyanide. He was quoted as saying:
"The character does use cyanide, yes. Though there’s no connection to Cyanide Mohan’s life, one could say that Kalamkaval is based on one such person. Many similar people have been caught over the years."
