For the unversed, on September 11, 2006, the power couple tied the knot in Chennai. A while back, Jyotika took to her Instagram handle to share a wholesome video of their 20-year marriage celebration. They have titled the video 'The Sequel.'

A while back, Jyotika took to her Instagram handle to share a heartwarming clip from her and Suriya’s intimate second wedding ceremony. The couple renewed their marriage vows in an intimate Christian ceremony, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. This time, it was way more special because Jyotika and Suriya were joined by their children, daughter, Diya and son, Dev.
While Diya served as the maid of honor, Dev walked his mother, Jyotika, down the aisle during their 20th-anniversary vow renewal. For the special ceremony, the couple opted for matching white attire, with Jyotika wearing a bridal gown and the Karuppu star dressed in a white tuxedo.
Along with the video, Jyotika penned a heartfelt note. In the note, she wrote, "A vow renewal, celebrating our 20 years of love and war." She mentioned that it was not a celebration of a perfect marriage but rather a celebration of imperfections, adjustments, understanding, sacrifices, and loving each other selflessly. She highlighted that it was a celebration of "us". She vowed to be a happy person, celebrate life, and cherish their friendship. She wrote:
"This is not a celebration of a perfect marriage. This is a celebration of imperfections, of adjustments, of understanding, sacrifices, of loving each other selflessly."
Jyotika called her life a gift as she has a man who loves and respects her beyond himself. She vowed to be thankful as every morning she wakes in the arms of a man who protects her, and for her beautiful children who have given her life meaning and given her a reason to live. While the clip was all things adorable, it was Suriya’s reaction that stole the spotlight. He was visibly emotional after seeing Jyotika in a wedding gown.

Suriya and Jyotika first crossed paths during the filming of Poovellam Kettupar in 1991. At the time, both of them were struggling hard to establish their foothold in the industry. Suriya was attracted to Jyotika after seeing her dedication to work and her humble behaviour with her co-stars. In 2001, the duo had their second meeting. Shortly after the second meeting, Suriya and Jyotika became good friends.
During the filming of Kaakha Kaakha, love blossomed between the couple. However, Suriya’s dad was against his relationship with Jyotika. In an interview with Galatta, Suriya’s father, Sivakumar, shared that Suriya was very adamant and said he would remain single for life if he did not get Jyotika in his life. Later, Sivakumar agreed, and the two tied the knot on September 11, 2006.
One year later, in 2007, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Diya, and in 2010, they completed their family by welcoming their second child, a son named Dev. However, after her marriage to Suriya, Jyotika left acting. While many believed that Suriya and his family didn’t allow Jyotika to appear in films, she once shared the reason behind it.
Setting the record straight, the actress shared that it was completely her decision to step away from films after her marriage. For the uninitiated, Jyotika left acting at the age of 28 and later, at the age of 35, got back into films.
