Why Justin Fairfax Killed Wife Over A Dispute? Later Died By Suicide, Duo Was Heading For Divorce

Famous American lawyer and politician, Justin Fairfax, is in the news for all the wrong reasons. As per reports, he died by suicide, but before that, he killed his wife, Cerina Fairfax, with whom he had been married for the last 20 years. For the unversed, Fairfax rose to fame as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2017. He was one of the few African Americans to hold statewide office in the USA's history.

Why did Justin Fairfax kill his wife, Cerina Fairfax?

Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax murdered his wife, Cerina Fairfax, at their marital home on April 16, 2026. As per the police, Justin Fairfax shot his wife, Cerina, inside their home, and later he killed himself. It is also stated that the couple's two teenage kids were inside the home when the shootings occurred. Plus, Justin and Cerina's son was the one who called 911. On arrival, the police found a man and a woman dead. The police found the same firearm to be used in both the shootings. 

As per the reason for the shooting, it stemmed from a marital dispute. Reportedly, the two were planning to divorce, and it was a messy one. Justin Fairfax had received a paper which indicated when he was next scheduled to appear in court for the divorce proceedings. 

As per the investigations, there were a lot of cameras which were set inside the home as part of the couple's ongoing divorce proceedings. The investigator also pointed out that a call was made by police by Justin Fairfax in January 2026, alleging assault by his wife. Davis stated that it was tragic that the children lost both their parents. On top of it, the children witnessed the shocking episode. He said:

"So tragic for the children to lose both parents, extra tragic for them to actually be in the home when it occurred. Certainly a fall from grace for a relatively high-profile family that seemingly had a lot of things going in their favor."

Where are Justin Fairfax's children after both parents' deaths?

Currently, Justin and Cerina's children are with their grandparents and other family members are supporting them in these testing times. Fairfax County Police Department's victim services are also supporting them. Davis shared that half of Americans go through divorce, but things should not end up like this. He said:

"Half of America probably goes through divorce proceedings at some point in time and very, very rarely, thankfully, does it ever end up like this. So, very sad for this community … a lot of people who know the Fairfax family — everybody’s shocked. We’re shocked."

As per reports, Justin Fairfax practised law, while his wife, Cerina was a dentist. The couple got married in 2006, and they were together for twenty years. The court records revealed that Justin and Cerina were heading for divorce, when the fateful incident happened. The couple had decided to part ways but they continued living in the same home in Annandale but using separate bedrooms. Their two teenage children were also inside the home when Justin killed his wife, and then shot himself dead.
