Julie Andrews will not be returning in The Princess Diaries 3
Fans who have been waiting for The Princess Diaries might be a little disheartened as the latest reports have confirmed that Julie Andrews won't be returning to the third installment of the film. In a conversation with Today.com, the actress has revealed that she will not be returning to the upcoming film. Talking about her decision, she was quoted as saying:
"I'm not going to be in it."
Julie Andrews has confirmed that she will not be returning as 'Queen Clarisse Renaldi' in the much-awaited sequel, meaning the royal reunion many fans had quietly hoped for will not happen. The actress played the beloved Queen in the first two Princess Diaries movies, becoming one of the most memorable parts of 'Mia Thermopolis' journey from an awkward teenager to the future Queen of Genovia.

However, now she has decided to leave it all behind. In another interview with InStyle, the actress explained that she feels she has moved on from that kind of on-screen work. Julie Andrews revealed that it was not an easy decision for her to make. She said the creative team had approached her about the film, but ultimately, she felt the time had come to say no.
When asked what she thinks happened to 'Queen Clarisse Renaldi' in the upcoming The Princess Diaries 3, Julie Andrews said she probably passed away. She admitted that she had a wonderful ride with the franchise, but she feels that 'Mia' no longer needs her grandmother to flourish. She was quoted as saying:
"I think I probably passed… I think I'm retired, really, would be about the best description for that. [The film's creative team] asked me all last year if I would be keen to do it. It was very, very hard to say 'no,' but I did because I thought I had a wonderful ride, and this one I felt would flourish very well and wouldn't need Granny going in there at my age."

How much did Julie Andrews charge for her role as 'Queen Clarisse' in the previous The Princess Diaries films?
While Julie Andrews has asserted that there is no room for her return, fans have grown curious about how much the actress was offered for the threequel. While there is no information on the same, reports have alleged that Julie was given a humongous paycheck for the first two films. According to reports, the actress was paid between USD 1.5 million and USD 2.5 million for the first The Princess Diaries film, which came out in 2001.
However, some trivia and retrospective sites have alleged that this paycheck might have been around USD 5 million. Talking about The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, the actress allegedly charged between USD 5 million and USD 7 million for the 2004 sequel. Nonetheless, these numbers were not confirmed by the makers or Julie Andrews herself.
