Jubilant Sykes was a known opera and jazz singer, and a well-liked man in his neighbourhood. Hence, the tight-knit community that loved him is still mourning the violent demise of the late singer. Allegedly, Jubilant's son, Micah Sykes, was the one who fatally stabbed him. Amid this, the neighbours who had known both father and son have given hints towards why the tragedy might have taken place and the alleged motive behind Jubilant Sykes' murder.
Jubilant Sykes' son, Micah Sykes, allegedly stabbed his 71-year-old father to death
Jubilant Sykes's wife, Cecelia, called the police to their home situated on Delaware Avenue, Santa Monica, at around 9:20 p.m. on December 8, 2025. According to The New York Post, the officers found the 71-year-old singer fatally injured and declared him dead at the scene. The late singer had sustained stabbing wounds. According to reports, the deceased's wife had called the police after witnessing the son allegedly attacking his father. The exact motive behind the alleged fatricide is not yet known. However, as per reports, Jubilant and Micah might have been embroiled in a domestic dispute.
31-year-old Micah Sykes has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of his father, Jubilant. Investigations are actively going on. According to the initial investigations, Lt. Lewis Gilmour of the Santa Monica Police Department stated that the stabbing was an "isolated incident contained within the household".
Jubilant Sykes' neighbours hint at Micah Sykes' alleged mental health issues
Many reports claim that Micah Sykes might have battled mental health issues. Amid this, Jubilant's neighbour, who knew both the father and son, spoke to The New York Post. Most of them shared a consensus that the accused son had a history of mental illness. One of the neighbours mentioned that Micah stayed with his parents but spent most of his time at the garage. Jubilant and Cecelia share three sons, and Micah was the only one of them who was staying with his parents. One of the neighbours even shared that the late singer himself had warned them about his son. The neighbour shared with the portal:
“He was a little weird. I had been warned that something like he was on dr*gs, but it was more like something mentally was not there. He was laying right there on the ground one night, sleeping. Like something — something was not right. But he (Jubliant) even warned me about it. I was like, 'why would he tell me that?' But his behavior was a little different. A little different."
