Jubilant Sykes’ autopsy has revealed new information surrounding his sudden death, which authorities say was allegedly caused by his son, Micah. Us Weekly recently obtained the documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner on July 21, 2026. The report listed the cause of death as “multiple stab wounds,” revealed to be 78.
His death has been classified as a homicide. The incident reportedly occurred inside Sykes’ Los Angeles home on December 8, 2025. His son, Micah Sykes, was arrested afterward in connection with the case. The report also included a statement from Jubilant’s wife, Cecelia Sykes. She told Santa Monica police that her son, who has a known history of mental illness, was responsible for stabbing her husband to death.
According to the examiner’s notes, Cecelia was in the shower when she heard her husband call for her to dial 911. When she came out, she allegedly saw her adult son over Jubilant, stabbing him with what appeared to be a sharp-edged object. The medical summary noted at least 73 injuries in total, including 68 caused by sharp force and 5 by blunt force.
Investigators also found two possible weapons beside the body: a 10-pound dumbbell with what appeared to be blood on it, and a curved knife with a blade about 9 inches long and 2 inches wide. A toxicology screening showed no presence of illegal drugs or prescription medication. Officials pronounced Jubilant dead at the scene.
Jubilant Sykes’ son was arrested after the incident
According to a statement released by the Santa Monica Police Department on December 9, 2025, officers found Jubilant with injuries consistent with stabbing, and he was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities later took Jubilant’s son, Micah Sykes, into custody. He was expected to be booked on suspicion of homicide, and officials said the case would be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review.
In a press release, Santa Monica Police noted that the details of the incident were still being investigated. They also stated that it appeared to be an isolated event inside a private home and that there was no continuing threat to the public. Neighbors who spoke to KTLA mentioned that Micah had experienced periods of homelessness and challenges related to mental health.
Santa Monica police Lt. Lewis Gilmour told KABC that the department was aware the son had a history of mental illness. He added that it was not yet clear what led to the incident, and investigators were looking into whether there had been an argument or altercation. According to online court records, Micah’s next court appearance was set for December 11, 2025, when he was expected to be formally booked and could enter a plea. His bail was set at USD million.
Although police said in their release that Jubilant’s death was an isolated incident with no broader danger, several people close to him expressed shock. A friend, Reaver Bingham, told KTLA that the news was extremely shocking and difficult to put into words. Family member Vienna Hayes described Jubilant as an amazing singer, an amazing person, and a devoted husband and father.
